Patriots are the definition of a 'system' but it's an effective one. I think they bring in very talented QBs but they just let them really absorb the team and system itself before plugging them in. That I guess by definition is a 'system QB' but that's not a bad thing... Tom Brady is EXTREMELY talented and a very good QB.
That said, no doubt he is surrounded by a great coaching/team system. I think the Pats bring in a # of veteran players (more than I see a lot of other teams) because their understanding of NFL concepts/plays/system design is MUCH more fine tuned than rookies/younger guys. They of course supplement this by youth and decent drafting.
IMO the true MVP of the Patriots is Kraft/Belichick. I think Tom Brady is vastly overrated (some calling him the best QB of all time) but still a great QB. That said, I always give a higher nod to the GM/Owner in successful NFL franchises. It wasn't JUST a QB that turned your team around... NBA can get away with it when you draft a Lebron, etc. 5 players vs. 22 (effectively).
