Favorite Reads

I'm getting depressed by my reading lately. I'm literally in the middle of all of these series by currently "active" authors. But nothing ever comes out.
#1 The fat man with the TV show. Will probably never finish writing another book.
#2. The bearded one with a soon to be show. Will probably eventually finish Doors of Stone, probably. Eventually.
#3 Sanderson. States it will take him 2 years to write Stoemlight books. Plus he has to take a year off in between to write other stuff to recharge himself. Definitely in the best place of all the writers I follow. But he just started book 4 of a planned 10. That's like 20 years before I find out how that story ends. If he doesn't slow down with age and fame/fortune notoriety and opportunity like others have.
#5 Steven Erikson. Feels bad being mad at him. He put pumped out a malayan novel like every 10 months for years. Then put out books 1&2 of a prequel series. All in the span of time Martin wrote literally 1 book. But then he decided not to finish book #3 and move on to a different series starring a fan favorite. Except the fan favorite won't show up at all in book 1. And either late or not at all in book 2. I'm sure I'll love it when it comes out, but not excited or looking forward to it anymore.
#5 Lynch. My wife cheated on me and I got divorced too. Wah. Write the books damn it. Sorry that was insensitive. But I loved lies of Locke Lamora so much, and he just let that series slowly die.
#6. Esselmont. I love Malazan, but Cam just isn't a very good writer. I do feel bad because he would probably not seem bad. Except he's writing the same characters and the same world as a true genius. And they just don't feel as alive in Cams hands.

I don't know how you can be mad at Sanderson. That dude pumps out books like it's no body's business. I am impressed with how quickly he writes.

I am finishing The Fated Sky right now. Good, easy read of an alternate history of us going into space. Second of the Lady Astronaut series.

I have a couple books laying around I need to read next, just not sure which to go for.

I should get a copy of Red Rising and finish that one.

Started listening to Skyward by Sanderson this past week, and much like I thought considering it's him, I'm enjoying it.

While he doesn't pump out a complete series back-to-back, he produces a lot of material that I like. I know when book 4 comes out for Stormlight, I'll either have to reread the previous books or at least read a summary of where we're at after Oathbringer. The Way of Kings got me into reading his other material and there's still so much more to go through in between, while I wait for GRRM and Rothfus to finish their next in the series (I feel Rothfus will be the only one to finish his though).

I liked NK Jemisin, VE Schwab, went back and read Butcher's Codex Alara novels...there is plenty of content out there.

Now that the academic year is coming to a close, I should have a little more time to sit down and read. I typically listen to audible versions while on my hour commute, but I won't have as much time in the car over the summer save for a couple planned vacations or listening while mowing the grass. I'll see about checking into one of the authors you mentioned for my next read.

Jemisin's Broken Earth trilogy is pretty good...it does a weird second person telling of the story sometimes and that really had me going for a while...but it's a good series.

I am waiting for Butcher's next Dresden novel...or his steam punk series he has....

and for Schwab, her Color of Magic trilogy was good. I enjoyed it.

I have been doing more science fiction lately...the Murderbot Diaries, We are Legion (we are Bob) is on my shelf...stuff like that. I also am halfway through listening to Red Rising, so need to pick that back up.

Oh, and The Poppy Wars, which I have heard was really damn good.

Lamb is fucking great. I am a big Christopher Moore fan. Just finished Noir, which had a couple laugh out loud moments.

Fool is one of my favorites. A great take on King Leer

weird...this never popped up on my alerts.

anyway, yes, Lamb was fucking hilarious. I'm currently reading Maskerade, a Pratchett Discworld book. Once completed I'm going to start from the beginning with Moore. And you're the 3rd person to mention Fool. Being a bit of a Shakespeare fan, I really look forward to that one.

I’ve always been a fan of audiobooks. I have trouble sitting down and doing one thing at a time. Audiobooks help me multi-task. Thanks for the tip.

My wife thinks I’m stupid. It’s the weirdest thing. I love novels, I love well developed characters and story. I just have trouble sitting down and being like, ok I’m going to put all my attention and focus into reading a book.
