The bold is the problem though. When is he ever healthy?

His first 2 years in Cleveland, he played in 75 and 77 games respectively. He hasn't topped 60 since then.

$30 million per year is an awful lot of money for a 32 year old who can't stay on the court.

I'm not one who necessarily think Love is washed and can't help a team. His skill set is one that tends to age well and he's never depended on athleticism. But he has to be able to stay healthy to help.

Once Cleveland waives him, I would gladly take him on the Lakers for the vet min.

Me too. It would be the proverbial low risk/high reward. If he's could stay healthy, he could be the consistent 3 point shooter that they currently lack. His rebounding and passing would just be added bonuses.

Did play 55 last year in a 65 game season....and played pretty well. Not sure about $30 mil well.

If the Cavs attach their unprotected first, then maybe.

Even then, the salaries the Blazers would have to give up to match are more productive and reliable players than Love.

Like we all said 3 years ago, it was an awful mistake by the Cavs to sign that extension.

You were wildly wrong.
Not as absurd as thinking only way to move him is attach a likely top 5 pick....never mind at the time Love was barely 30 and coming off 3 mostly productive seasons.

Certainly possible but I don't think he gets bought out.

Probably not and I'm certainly not holding my breath waiting for it. lol

But if they did, he could really help if he can stay healthy. Playing in 55 of 65 games last year is encouraging.

He only played in 25 this year, but if memory serves on what I heard/read, it was more about the Cavs tanking than him being hurt. In the games he played in, he averaged 12 ppg, 7rpg and 3 apg and shot 37% from 3. Not too bad for 25 min per game.

I actually think he was really hurt this year. Probably should have played even less as he kept re-injuring himself.

Depending how much a team needed him, I think he could give them 10-15 ppg and 7-9 rpg...shoot 35-38% from 3.

Shit, that would be just about exactly what the Lakers need.

Sucks that it's not likely to happen, I've wanted to see Love in Lakers uniform for a long time. I used to get excited a few years back when Dan Patrick was all but guaranteeing Love to the Lakers. Unfortunately, it turned out be a Charles Barkley type guarantee. lol

Guess with Lebron and AD healthy high end of those number not likely (nor needed).

Yes and no. The high end certainly would not be needed on a nightly basis. But it would be good for games when Lebron or AD are out.

Yep.

And every single non Cav fan here said it was a terrible move.

We were right.

My point in saying Cleveland would have to add the pick is to emphasize that Love to Portland isn’t happening unless he gets bought out.

Obviously Cleveland wouldn’t do that. And Portland wouldn’t take him in unless they got compensated well to do so.

I still think Love can shoot, rebound and pass when healthy- and is mis-caste as a one on the Cavs. I think IF- and its a BIG HUGE IF- he can stay healthy- that the time off the last couple years will actually benefit the wear and tear since its not like hes had a serious injury.

I will save this post for next years trade deadline. Not like a 1 1/2 is a long time.

And the IF is why nobody is trading for him with 2 years left on the deal.

Just not worth the risk.

Maybe the 2023 trade deadline. And even then you aren’t getting a quality asset in return.

You were right....but doesn't mean it was a no brainer not to extend him at the time. Then again, it's not like you'd admit you were wrong as you still think a team who had air from a deal won a trade

watch how this works.....In hindsight, the Cs clearly lost the Kyrie deal, and knowing what they now know would not have made it. But it made sense at the time to make the deal.

I think they're stuck with the smaller 5 mil MLE regardless of what happens. They can technically pay a player the larger 9 mil MLE, but it'll hard cap them which basically makes re-signing (like Caruso) our own players impossible. Rose could a decent option. He's a little more of a slasher still so it's not the best absolute fit next to Lebron, but he's probably the best PG the Lakers could afford if Schroder leaves. I very much doubt Lowry or Conley are coming for 5 mil just to get a ring (or another one in Lowry's case).

What I hope they do (besides letting Drummond walk), is dump Kuzma for whatever serviceable guard you can get and sign Carmelo Anthony for the vet min or MLE if need be. He's close friend with Lebron, might want to chase a ring. Melo is a much better fit off the bench that Kuzma would be. Says a lot about how little Kuzma has grown his game that he's not better than oldass Melo at this point, but all I know is Melo wouldn't have been out there vs PHX bricking 3s looking like he's never played basketball.
Melo would be nice....he has shown he can still play well off the bench.

Kyrie deal made sense for sure. Some deals just don’t work out in the long term.

And sometimes air is better than a group of mediocre players that win too much to keep you out of the top pick range.

That said, yeah, totally get why Cleveland made the move to sign Love. But it has had a very predictably bad outcome, and IMO the decision was an emotional one, not a practical one.
