ESPN Pre-season power rankings

People always talk shit about how awful these power rankings always are but ESPN pretty much called the Conference Championship Weekend back on July 1, 2012.

The top ranked AFC and NFC teams made it and if the Hawks beat the Broncos in the Superbowl, then they may as well cancel next season and give the Lombardi to whoever starts the season #1

Looks to me like their top 2 NFC and top 2 AFC teams are in the Conference Championships.

Interesting that 5 playoff teams started the season below #20, plus the 10-6 Cardinals.

Thus the reason that there are on average 5 new playoff teams out of 12 every season.

Who will it be next year?

If I had to pick 3-4 teams at the bottom of the rankings right now that I think could rise up next year I would say Washington (finally going to get out of cap hell), Houston (if there is any team that reminds me of the Chiefs this is the team), and my wild card being Buffalo (defense could be good next year, good running team, weak division other than Pats, and I just think Manuel could be a decent quarterback).

Depends on your definition of pointless. Their top two teams in the AFC and NFC did make it to championship weekend

Well it certainly isn't shocking that any of these four teams have made it this far, as everyone pretty much expected them too. These four teams had the best Vegas odds to begin the year. It certainly is unusual, given recent history that there isn't an upstart surprise team in the mix. The stars have aligned for some awesome games this week and for the Super Bowl.

I didnt think the Pats would be in the AFCG with Hernadez killing people, Gronk playing for 2 games, Wilfork and Mayo out for season and Edelman their no#1 receiver. Thought Houston might have gone for but oh well, just like Atlanta in NFC

What NE has been able to accomplish this season is nothing short of a miracle. Belichick should go down as the greatest coach of all time. Man is pure genius
