funny but when the Penguins had 3 first overall picks in 5 years a while ago I did not hear anywhere near the same level of complaining as against us. only fair way to deal with a top pick really is 30 teams, each with 1 ball go into a drum. may the best team win.

Plenty of people are pretty vocal about Pittsburgh being VERY lucky. I'd put the Oilers in that camp too.

The system is meant to help teams who are struggling. The Oilers have squandered the good will of that system and it seems unjust that they continue to be "rewarded" for their ineptitude.

I'm not sure there is a solution. The bottom line is that if a team is watching the lottery with bated breath for years on end then something is wrong.

There is also the arrogance displayed by Oilers upper management. That might have something to do with fans of rival teams being a little bit salty about this.

I'm just happy to have Connor in the West.

You must be new here...oh wait. :)

Which is exactly how one of three picks were obtained.

Not exactly accurate. Each team had 3 balls and one was removed for certain criteria (having a recent #1 overall was one of them). A team could lose up to two balls, leaving each team with 1-3 balls.

IIRC Pissburgh had only one ball. They were long shots. It was extremely lucky/crooked that they happened to win that one. :spy:

I'll submit it wasn't luck. But it wasn't crooked either. It was the hockey gods making things right after Howard Baldwin basically destroyed the franchise. :D

welcome -

for most of us, we aren't pissed that the oiler fans get the gift, but because that shitpile of a management team (starting with the owner) get rewarded massively by blind luck again and again, for being utterly fucking useless.

the older among us still remember the Oiler fans, media, players and pretty much everyone involved being so utterly arrogant during the 80s. You still see that attitude in shitheads like Dan Tencer on the media side and "I know a thing or two about winning" from the organizational side. So seeing a decade of misery is still rather enjoyable.

other than that, seeing the Oilers development ruin young players is getting rather tiresome. remember Sam Gagner was the start of this rebuild? that was 2007

again, welcome. us from the smythe division do tend to hate on the Oilers, if you can get past that, the board is a pretty accommodating place. (we are even nice to Leafs fans sometimes)

Also, consider the dynamic of this board...make as much fun of the Oilers, Panthers, AZ and FUCK DALLAS!, mostly because there isn't much if any of those teams' representation here. With more representation, we'd back off a little on the belittling comments. Except Dallas, of course. :D

Oh and for the new guy (first of all welcome), second of all this will be 7 straight top-10 picks and 8 top-10s in the last 9 drafts. Not to mention 5 top-3 picks in the last 6 years. Please excuse us if we're a bit salty at this outcome.

Pens had 3 balls, as did Buffalo, Columbus and NYR.

Why do the Stars get so much hate? Or is it a Dallas thing in general?

Am I forgetting the 3rd one? Fleury and Crosby, who else?

What I assumed, then. Makes sense.

Although it should be added that some don't like Dallas because of former North Stars owner Norm Greene moving the team from Minneapolis to Dallas. Also, Antoine Roussel and Ryan Garbage er Garbutt aren't exactly endearing fellas.

Couldn't have said it better myself, but prior to the Roussel and Garbage they had Ott and rat boy as well.
