Not that it's likely to make you change your mind, but there's apparently a lot more to this than originally reported.
I was highly annoyed by this initially too, but additional news reports seemed to indicate Nolan knew he was likely going to be out after this year anyhow, but the team agreed to sign him to an unrestricted three year contract. So even though he only fulfilled one year of that, the team apparently intentionally put no restrictions in place on his ability to collect the full amount of the contract regardless of whether he ends up coaching somewhere else. So supposedly they essentially guaranteed him he'd get paid for three years worth of work in one.
That's nice of the organization to do, but it's to bad he's not going to be given a chance to coach a team that has a chance to win. If the Sabres can somehow hire somebody like Babcock I completely understand the move. If not I don't get it. Nolan is a good coach. I feel he deserved at least 1 year to work with Eichel.
