Giants answer to the Dodgers may all come from the Rockies. Apparently the Rockies have had scouts at Fresno and Richmond, with their top scout in AA. They certainly have some nice pieces, Scutaro for bench depth, Belisle or Betancourt for bullpen depth and Cuddyer for a right-handed bat.

I'd imagine ToJo/Brown are guys they are looking at and a ML bat like Schierholtz (I'm sure they very well know how he plays at Coors) and any number of our pitchers. Would you guys do it?

Just don't trade Susac. The results might be catastrophic around here.

We know the Giants coveted Cuddyer last year. Decent RH bat - having a down year, though. At the very least everything the Giants hoped Brett Pill could be. Owed ~22M through 2014, I think I'd pass.

Scutaro over Theriot? No way. Theriot's line since he returned from the DL: .311/.360/.372 let's not mess that up.

I think Scutaro would be more of a replacement for Burriss. And actually give a decent AB in a late game situation. NO WAY he would start over Theriot right now.

Word. Everyone needs at least one day off a week in August, and Emmanuel Burriss has been given every opportunity to prove he is a major leaguer. He isn't. If baseball-reference is correct, Scutaro would be a rental, so his .684 OPS and barely average range shouldn't cost much. Plus, I'm guessing the center piece of any deal with the Rockies would be Betancourt. Another 1.11 WHIP in the bully? Yes, please. I would think SabeySabes could get that deal done without having to give up anyone in the Top 5.

Wouldn't it be Scutaro over ManTurd?

I guess, but is scutaro mainly a backup now? Is that a role he'd accept? I'd still like to have a speed guy on the bench.

Think he'd rather being starting everyday in the cellar? Maybe if he is playing for his next contract.

Boch would figure out a way to get him in the lineup a lot anyway, he plays SS too so Crawford can get days off against lefties (even though he's hitting lefties better but we all know Boch loves matchups)

That'll be Blanco, if they grab Cuddyer, too. ;)

Yeah, was thinking along the same lines, although I like Blanco starting in CF, and Pagan as a switching hitting 4th outfielder/bench bat.

You know how much the Giants value a good clubhouse. Pure speculation, but that's the only possible downside I can think of with adding scutaro, because clearly he's a big upgrade over Burriss - not that that difference would have much of an impact on wins - so I would not give up anything of much value for him. At 6M, he's not cheap.

Then Pagan can be your speed guy?

Is Scutaro any real upgrade over Arias as far as platooning SS? I guess if the plan is play Panda at 1B more (no more splits please!), we need Arias at 3B, another infielder is a good idea to get.

Yes, Pagan as the speed guy too. And no, I don't think Scutaro is a clear upgrade over Arias. I hope the Giants don't plan on replacing Belt with Arias.........

That's gotta be pro-rated or they get Susac's jock strap for Marco. This is purely a depth move, and one that I like... especially if the Giants get Betancourt. I always hate the idea of trading within the division (for obvious reasons), but if Colorado is the best trade partner, so be it. If SabeySabes does change his tune and goes after Cuddyer, too, that means Pagan won't get re-signed in the off-season, but if Melky gets 220 hits this year, is he gone, too? Would Hembree, Belt, Schierholtz and Burriss grab Cuddyer, Betancourt and Scutaro? Making Brown the center-piece would probably get it done. But is that worth it?

EDIT: Scutaro has played a lot more SS over the last three years than I thought. He should be a nice defensive upgrade for Theriot when he needs a rest.

According to Danny Knobler or CBS Sports the Dodgers are looking at adding Justin Morneau as well. I just love how the new owners are willing to spend massive amounts of money for guys wh are 2 and 3 years past their prime. This new ownership is growing on me. I like them more and more every day. Maybe they'll take a flier on Alfonso Soriano as well.

Who did Agent Ned train under again?

Contrast this quote from dodgers ownership with the Giants Rainy Day Fund mentality:

with all that money attached to new ownership. It's clear that principal owner Mark Walter, chief executive officer of Guggenheim Partners, wants his team to become the Yankees of the west, never afraid to spend lavish amounts of cash. "I'm not trying to save a dollar," he told the L.A. Times. "I'd rather say we have a great team and maybe spend a little too much."

I haven't heard much about Scutaro's character, but I don't think he'd cause too much trouble playing half a season for a team that is currently in first place rather than a team that is currently in last.

Yeah, Huff's and Franchez' waste of $16MM really make some deals where we take on salary tough. I'm no expert on this, but I'm assuming Scutaro has about $1.5 left this year and Bentancort has about $1 (someone please correct me if I'm way off). But if we pick up all the salary on both deals (Scutaro is a FA, Bentancourt has another year @ $4MM), we would only have to give up someone like Hembree, if that.

It's always pro-rated. There is no way the Giants are trading their farm system for players 33+ years old. I'd suspect they can get Cuddyer for nearly nothing, and the same with Scutaro. Salary relief only.
