If they get rid of the cap system teams like the Flyers, Leafs & Rangers will have 100M payrolls. The Islanders will spend 20M if that. A hard cap system is a must for the NHL.

I know and agree, but one does not simply pass up a chance to call Jeff a commie.

So you are saying you prefer communism, where every team gets their allotted cap space, no more, no less, regardless of any sort of skill or talent, as opposed to a capitalism, where teams can earn their own cap space?

Sly's a commie! And thanks to the converse fallacy of accident, that means all Boston folks must be communists! Oh, Boston, you were one of our proudest cities, and you've turned. Still, we have hope. We all know the way to best way to beat the red is with the orange and the black...

You're lucky. During the last lockout the Checkers were still ECHL. It was good enough for my hockey fix, but a huge drop off.

Uneasiness grows as lockout deadline nears for NHL, NHLPA - Winnipeg Free Press

Current system
Salary cap: $70.2 million
Salary floor: $54.2 million

NHL's proposal
Salary cap: $50.8 million
Salary floor: $38.8 million

NHLPA's proposal (assuming a fixed $16-million gap is kept in place)
Salary cap: $69 million
Salary floor: $53 million

:L big gap
what the NHL comes back with will tell us whether they actually want to get a deal done.

The old system isn't working, yet all the league wants to do is tweak the old system (i.e. gouge the players again) with very little changes to revenue sharing. It's kinda funny that swarmy Bettman says "It's clear the player's proposal wasn't put together in a hour or two" 'cause I think that's about the time the league spent on their proposal.

I don't expect a deal at all soon, but I really would love someone to push for a 10 year deal. At least that way the bad taste from the last lockout will be a bit farther behind.
