Uneasiness grows as lockout deadline nears for NHL, NHLPA - Winnipeg Free Press

Current system
Salary cap: $70.2 million
Salary floor: $54.2 million

NHL's proposal
Salary cap: $50.8 million
Salary floor: $38.8 million

NHLPA's proposal (assuming a fixed $16-million gap is kept in place)
Salary cap: $69 million
Salary floor: $53 million

:L big gap
what the NHL comes back with will tell us whether they actually want to get a deal done.

Does anyone realize that the only teams that would currently be cap compliant without a substantial decrease to players salaries would be the Isles, Sens & Coyotes?

The NHL's proposal ridiculously insulting. If teams are going to exist in markets that can't support them then the NHL should pay for them to stay there. Losing a few teams woudl make the league more competitive, or there are always other cities that could shoulder the financial burden of a pro hockey team.

I've told Isles fans on the fansite who keep saying the Isles are under the cap that we don't know what the cap is so they aren't. Wang knows what the Owners want out of this deal. He's not going to spend more than he has too.

owners have a ready solution for that....
they are proposing that every player takes a 24% salary haircut, effective immediately.

Cool so does that mean ticket prices and all food/merchandise in the arenas will decrease in cost by 50%? Cause that sounds great to the fans who avtually pay everyone's salaries.

what bothers me is how both the union and owners don't seem to have any urgency to get this deal done. They aren't even going to be negotiating again until next week?? These guys should be getting together every day until a deal gets done.

Honestly if I was a player or in the NHLPA I wouldn't be in a rush to get anything done. I would simply just pack up and go play in Europe or Russia and watch the NHL and it's owners suffer until they're willing to put out some kind of actual well thought out plan that works for everyone involved and doesn't hurt the most over-looked group in this whole thing.... The fans.

@drosennhl: Fehr traveling to Chicago and Kelowna to update players. Next economic negotiating session set for next Wednesday.

tells you how many NHL'ers live in Kelowna in the offseason lol

#NHL players boss Donald Fehr will be in Kelowna Mon and Tues for meetings at the Delta Grand Hotel.

News1130 Sports ‏@News1130Sports
Kelowna is home to no fewer than 30 #NHL players during the off-season, including Shea Weber, Dany Heatley, Jarome Iginla, and Carey Price.

what bothers me is i think some teams (minnesota, nashville, perhaps others) signed players to contracts expecting the salaries to be rolled back.. which will have them fighting tooth and nail to get a substantial roll back

did you know that in the 2 times that Daryl Sutter has been to the final we have had Labour Strife and 1 lockout and another potential lockout.

I think he should be banished.

CBJ and Coyotes account for a third of all NHL losses - seems like spreading the wealth may solve a lot of problems......just a thought

fuck I just want one cup Dash... just fucking one

Canucks fans should be upset about a potential work stoppage, matty, you guys have a quality team with a legit shot at the Cup, the last thing you want is to lose a season and have the window of opportunity taken away.

/reminds me of the Flames after getting so close in 2004 only to see the next season go bye-bye.
