so you dont have a plan ? colt is the best you got ? laughable

What is laughable is 26.5 a year plus 90m guaranteed to KC. Why does KC deserve an open check book from SM?

Its numbers, they are being thrown out. The likeliness of Cousins getting $90M guaranteed is unrealistic. All he has ever said is he wants a fair deal that makes him feel wanted, offering him a backups salary is some what of an insult.

Some times I wonder if some fan have intentionally forgotten just how shitty this team has been at QB for most of the last 20 years.

KC wanted 22-23M annually last year. What is KC's definition of fair? Isnt his agent going to use the Luck contract as a base to negotiate with?

So what if it is?? So what if he gets more money than Luck, Oh My GAWD what a travesty.

1. Its not YOUR Money
2. If the team does the deal, obviously they think that they can fit it in without hurting the team in other areas.
3. Who you going to replace him with??

I just posted the source. If we do that deal and he fails this team is ruined.

you can't argue against how well the team did with a first place schedule, no running game, no defense

I started to ask a question about this but, I believe that this question is better suited in a new thread. Sorry!

That is simply not true. In the first two years of a Luck deal, Cuz's cap numbers are $18.4M and $19.4M which are less than the tag he played under this year. They would also represent less than 11% of the cap space for 2017 and 2018, a percentage which is also less than what the tag was on the team's 2016 cap.

In 2019, we can actually cut him and clear cap space.

One issue among many is that Bruce Allen is notoriously cheap. We could've easily given Cuz a $20M AAV deal last year and that would've actually featured a lower cap number than the tag.

You are right but Im talking about the deal 106.7 reported. That destroyed Lucks contract numbers.

Haynesworth got a $100M dollar contract... Nuts at the time. He played here three years... guess how much he actually made??

$40M... still steep. But it averaged out to $13.5M a year we paid for his services.

Cousins is going to get paid, either by us or some one else. Tag him and if he performs as well as he did this year, he is gone. If he performs better, he is really gone. And if we tag him, it has got to change our entire draft strategy. Unless Nate Sudfeld is a secret weapon. We are almost forced to draft a QB early. I know one or two of you get all chubby at that idea, But every year we waste looking for an elite QB, is another year older the few good players we currently have get.

That all depends on how it's structured. A $26.5M AAV is not that statistically more than what Luck got, and AAVs are very misleading and generally meaningless. While Luck had $47M in full guarantees, the only part of his deal that's fully guaranteed after his first year is $3M of his salary in the second year. Not sure why that happened but it might've had something to do with the fact that Luck had a piss poor, injury-riddled 2015 season. The Redskins could reach that $90M figure under Luck's deal by guaranteeing everything he's paid for the first three years. If he's not up to snuff by Year 2, cutting him in Year 3 would be difficult.

But, Corry's numbers are simply an estimate, read: educated guess, especially the fully guaranteed money. That can be moved around in different ways, not the least which is giving Cuz a larger signing bonus -- e.g., $50M -- so we can include a lot of non-guaranteed money in third year.

Yes but it killed out cap at that time and we couldn't get other players in FA. Sorry cant just give KC a blank check he hasn't earned it. Stats are great but big time wins are not.

True but KC knows that the open market is going to overpay for him. So why take what SM offers? I think he wants to test the open market.

It was done under the OLD CBA. I think thats what alot of you guys are missing. We just gave Norman $50 million guaranteed, he is set to count $20M against this years cap. And yet, we have almost $70M in cap space. The new CBA was setup so that teams COULD write these mega deals and NOT have to suffer if they dont work out.

Romo's contract is the last deal still stuck in the old math, and even it has gotten to a point where Dallas will be OK. They cant go hog wild spending without moving some other money around.... but gone are the years of massive roster purges to get under the cap.

Dude.. if you walked into a car dealership thinking you only want to spend $20k on a car, but turns out the car you want is a $50K car, and you have to pay $50K to get it, did you over pay?? The only way you OVERPAY for anything is if the going price is less than what you end up paying for it. The going rate for QBs right now is $20M a year plus on average.... the only real factor is... whats the plus.
