... of the defense that the Seahawks have put together over the past few seasons? The NFL is sometimes described as a "copycat league". Great a job as Johnny Broncos has done, I hope he was taking notes last night.

I just wish we could get our entire D healthy and on the field together for a few games.....Possibly the playoffs? (Minus Vickerson, that is.)

You can make the argument the Seahawks are the best team in the league right now. They are the #2 scoring offense and defense, are close to unbeatable at home, and in position to compete for several seasons because a lot of their talent is young. Compare that to the Broncos. The broncos may have a more sensational offense but they also have a shorter window. While I think the team is in very good hands with Elway running the show the truth is they may not be that good once the transition past Manning's sojourn on the team. Who knows, maybe they will be okay. But to not expect a drop off is unrealistic.

But I am not jealous, no. I would love to see these two teams match up in the Super Bowl. As good as the Seahawks defense is I do not think they can stop the Broncos offense for a full game. The offense has enough talent to give our defense a workout, too. It would be a really good game.

Jealous? No. The Broncos are a great team, with a chance to be the greatest offense of all time. I'd rather enjoy what we do have then be jealous of what we don't.

I was hoping our defense would round out to be similar to Seattle's in production, as it seems to on the surface be similarly constructed. I mean who wouldn't want to see that kind of defense paired with our offense? Scary thought indeed (for the rest of the league, that is).

That said, our defense is playing much better than previous versions have. We've come a long way from the turnstyle defenses we've seen in past years. Yes, this season started out rough, but recent results are very encouraging. I think, given a little more time to build depth, that we can have a D similar to Seattle's in the near future. A lot of the "studs" on this team are still quite young.

Me too. Still, injuries and suspensions, like bad weather and crowd noise on the road, are simply part of the game. For example, Seattle last night was without two of its best DBs, yet they still managed to hold Brees, Graham, Colston, Sprolls, Thomas, et al to a mere seven points. Truly a remarkable defensive performance.

What's more, they have basically built that defense in three years. Definitely a model of both scheme and personnel worth taking a look at, in my opinion.

No doubt about that. Watching what Seattle did to NO last night, however, I can't help but wonder if we've improved enough to get done what we need to do.

Assuming it is a Denver vs Seattle Superbowl. On a neutral field or away, Seattle's defense loses their crowd noise advantage and teams have been able to move the ball on the ground against them.

If Denver keeps Moreno healthy and Ball continues to show he can run like he did against the Chiefs, New Jersey in February is going to be about who makes the fewest mistakes.

The running games are about even.

Denver's passing game is better.

They have the better defense overall.

Avoid the turnovers and this will be about who executes better.

Broncos own the 2nd best record in the NFL, undefeated at home just like Seattle, and have an offense that is on pace to shatter the record books this season. Why in the world is there a need to be jealous? The Seahawks are the flavor of the week after beating a quality opponent. Same as we were at the beginning of the year, same as the Chiefs were after going 9-0, same as we were again when we beat them, same as the Patriots were after they beat us, so now it is Seattle. Every week it seems like there is a new paper champion according to all the sports media. Right now before Seattle would play us at the fewest both teams would play 6 more games so that is a lot of season left before these two would even meet on a field.

Thankfully if we are to meet them it would 1) mean we are in the Super Bowl and 2) they would not have that great home field advantage with the game being played in a neutral site. The Seahawks like most teams do not play as well on the road. The Broncos this season are averaging 41 points on the road. We actually average just a hair more points on the road than we do at home this season so I think the Broncos would be just fine on a neutral site playing Seattle.

The question asked in the thread title is whether watching the game last night made you jealous of the defense that Seattle has built over the past few years. Personally, I think that answering that question with a resounding "yes" is a no-brainer. Doesn't really have anything to do with media reports or flavors of the week, either. Rather, that opinion is based solely on on-filed play (e.g., I prefer giving up an average of 15-points per game to giving up 26).

Does anyone really think that we are capable of defending an offense like NO's the way that Seattle did last night? In my opinion, there is no evidence to suggest that we are even remotely capable of that. When pressure wasn't forcing Brees into errant throws, LBs and DBs were successfully defending passes against the likes of Graham, Colston, and Sprolls. Our defense has made similar plays, but not for an entire game and certainly not against an offense as good as NO's.

That's not to say that we are not capable of getting to or winning the SB, or that Seattle is a lock to do one or the other of those, but having a defense like theirs is definitely desirable. As WalkerBoh put it, a defense like that paired with our offense would be "scary" good. I'll take scary good every time over fearing that we will come up short in a shootout. Does 35-38 ring any bells?

I would be more impressed if the saints were not know for dropping turds on the road. The seahawks have a good D and I would like to have quite a few of their personnel but the seahawks are very good at home and the saints have had issues on the road. This leads me to wonder how much of it was the terrain and how much was talent/plan.

Definitely a fair point. Still, just watching the game it didn't look to me as if the Saints played poorly on offense nearly so much as Seattle's defense just dominated them.

The SB is in NY in Feb. Therefore, distinct possibility that there will be subarctic, blizzard like conditions. Thr passing game would suffer. I like the Broncos running game.

If anybody on this board disputes the fact that Seattles D isn`t the best and scariest D since the Bears way back when, their blind. What they did last nite to NO was nothing less than total domination. To think they had two of their starting dbs out, going against Brees and a pretty damn good arsenal of rbs/ wrs/te and still totally whupped them is amazing. What`s really scary is their special teams, I think they said their #1 in that area and we all "should" know what that means....They have great depth. Most the youngsters start out on special teams and by their play there and in practice, they earn the right to get chance to compete for starting roles and playing time with 1st team. That`s where you see the depth and talent a team has by their special teams. (A glance into the future). I`ll tell you what, by the looks of this Seattle team ( and major kudos to the coaching staff they have) this team will be very dangerous for years. I`ve always been a lover of great D play, so maybe I`am a tad biased but that is one scary team and they deserve the recognition. That said, I still think a Denver vs Seattle SB would be maybe one of the best ever if it were to be. Denver D with DRC and Wolfe and the current crew intact come playoff time, can still come up with a very strong admirable effort IMO

Again this all boils down to them being the flavor of the week right now. Over the past 5 games or so they were giving up close to 150 yards a game in rushing and almost lost to the Bucs at home when they fell behind 21 points. That was just a few weeks ago and now they are being talked about as this dominating team that every team in the NFL should fear. Right now yes I would say they are the best team in the NFL but that very well could change even in just a matter of a week or two depending on injuries or say somebody figures out the best way to beat their defense. Look at the Chiefs...That defense was considered legendary for the first 9 weeks and was being compared by some with the 85 bears defense. Teams figured out the best way to attack the defense and since then they have been giving up tons of points.

Now would I love to have their defense paired up with our offense...Of course I would. This is why though the Cap in the NFL is the great equalizer in no team can be just completely stacked with all stars like we see in baseball. I will give it to Seattle for running a very good organization but in the NFL it takes a little luck mixed in with some great scouting to get where they are today with quality young players and great depth. Getting Richard Sherman to me falls on the side of luck considering he was a 5th round pick. He is now considered one of the top 5 or so defensive players in the NFL and the rest on the list are all 1st round picks. So there is where you see some of the luck. Then again they drafted guys like Earl Thomas and Bruce Irvin who are both playing well for them. They also had quite a bit of room in Free Agency to make some splash signings because they have the best dollar for dollar value at the quarterback position. I think Russell Wilson is making less than a $1 million or so this season so that then gives them $18 million more in cap space compared to the Broncos just in that one position. Makes it a little easier to make some splash signings that other teams cannot have the luxury of. Once Wilson has to be paid I am betting you will see some drop off in the overall quality of the roster.

I agree with most of you that it would be great to have a defense like Seattles with the offense Denver has but that doesnt mean this Broncos team isnt capable of winning the whole thing. Seattle drafted very well and picked up some key FA's. That would be an interesting Super Bowl if that happens.

Maybe it's because I'm in Northern California so I get to see more of the 49ers than the Seahawks, but I'd rather see our d more like SF than Seattle. Or at least have Justin Smith.
