He was the Miles Austin of the Jets & I believe he had character issue in the past. I know he did with the Steelers.

He does (Holmes). Johnson would be a better fit for sure, but he would probably command a bigger contract and lacks the top end speed, I think he's more of a big target and a possession wr....nothing wrong with that.:suds:

He could also step in as a #1 of Dez goes down
:agree:So would that level of talent he has possibly stunt the growth of Williams? Sounds like Johnson is at least still good enough to be a number 2 guy?

Not if we run 3WR set & also it may give the Cowboys a fall back plan if for some reason Dez is not extended. Which I think he definately will be come hell or high water.

No to both for me. It would be absolutely insane to bring in a guy like Holmes to be around Dez every day. Stevie Johnson is a decent player, but you also have to remember he didn't have too much talent competing with him for targets in Buffalo and really hasn't been great lately and he is likely going to be out of our price range.

Yes, we are in a lot of trouble if Dez goes down, but we have positions where we are in trouble WITHOUT a Pro Bowl starter getting hurt. At least we have Dez. I would rather focus on those other positions if we are throwing around anything other than veteran minimum type contracts. On the what if game, What if T. Smith goes down? Frederick? Leary? We have nothing behind those 3 at this point. We will likely draft a WR at some point. that and our current guys is the best way to go IMO. We have a great #1, an up and coming #2, a very good slot guy (nothing but a slot guy of course) and a guy that has been good with the limited opportunities he's been handed and will be active for sure on game day because of his STs play. We aren't as bad at WR as people portray. Look at Philly!!!

That's true especially regarding the injuries You can never make injuries the basis of your argument because If any team lose their star player it will likely derail their season. I'm not as sold on Williams as most here are a guess. Maybe Holmes would be a bad one to bring in because of his issues, i'm not as hung up on character as most but I will admit it does matter. In imo we do need a vet wr on this roster.

Matt Johnson has one more year to get on the field. He actually looked somewhat impressive in limited action in the one. preseason. He looked like a good fit for this scheme. I don't understand why we cut Allen who was serviceable and then let heath start all those games. I would not mind getting manning. Manning would be an upgrade over heath or wilcox. Jerrah also needs to stop wasting 3rd and 4th round picks on projects

The Eagles also have McCoy & Sproils, Cowboys don't have a game breaker out of the backfield. Please spare me with Dunbar....

I'm ready to give Matt Johnson his walking papers too, this should be his last shot.

I personally like our WR group. IMO if we get any WR I hope it's in the draft, and it's a BURNER. That is what we lack.

You lose nothing by keeping Matt Johnson for now. If he makes it through a training camp/preseason and shows something, great. If he gets injured again, bye bye.

That's' the only reason I suggested Holmes because of his speed and he has good hands.

Did I miss a discussion on the backfield? Since you brought it up, Dunbar is a game breaker to me. Is he McCoy? No, but who is? I absolutely love Sproles and have for years. You guys will see that Sproles has lost a little of his shiftiness and he is not a game breaker. Still an amazing receiver and good player, but IMO his game breaking days are done. Even last year he started to lose snaps and targets to others on 3rd downs. Yeah, he still had 71 catches, but Thomas had 77.

Belechik is setting up a nice smokescreen for us. We should also bring in Manziel and Carr for a visit. We can't let teams like the Browns,Raiders Jaguars.Titans assume that these qbs are going to automatically drop to them in the top of the 2nd round

I'm torn. I want a "burner", but I also want another big huge target like Dez. Look at what Chi can do with both of their big WRs. The other problem I have with a burner (and I know I'm about to get 100 comments on this): Romo sucks on the go route. It isn't about arm strength because he does hit the depp crossing patterns and deep outs. He just doesn't seem to be able to hit that one; maybe it's timing. How many times does our WR get a step on the defense and he just misses him. Those are huge plays. Don't take this as an anti-Romo comment because it's not, but it has IMO been a weakness in his game for years from where I sit. In the NFL if the WR gets a step or two behind the defense you need to hit him in stride more often than not.

Exactly. There is zero downside to letting Johnson have one more shot. We owe him nothing and he hasn't earned a 2014 roster spot yet. He won't make the 53 unless he does. I'm not even considering him until I see him in a preseason game.
