Wilcox was an incomplete to me. Tough year with the injury and his mom passing away.
I'm not ready to say he's anything at this point but he flashed enough football player for me where I'm excited to see year two....even with that, safety in the first or second round would be nice.

:agree: I think his inexperience hurts him more than is talent, but he has time to grow.

Depends .... Does Jerry believe we are in a win now mode still ....... or with the cut of Ware and Austin he finally woke up ..... and is just being Jerry ... and denying getting younger and rebuilding

Jerry will never say rebuild ..... He wants them TV contracts and Prime time games

Signing 30+ year old safeties are hurting the team more than not, just for the simple fact we aren't fixing the situation. This is why we're in the situation we are in. I think it was Parcells who didn't think safety was an important enough position to upgrade and Jerry has carried that line of thinking over with these old ass washed up vets and these late round guys.

Count me as one of the guys who want a 1st or 2nd round safety.

Again you are missing the point. There is nothing wrong with signing a 30 year old that doesn't break the bank or drafting a safety. The problem is signing or drafting the wrong guy. That's like saying don't draft a LB in The first round because Carpenter didn't work out. Even Allen last year makes us a better team if we keep him, so so can you say it is hurting the team? We were better with that 30 year old safety. I don't get that. Where is the rule that if you sign a veteran guy that can actually play and one of the kids steps up you have to start that guy? The only mistake we could make is going int the year thinking one of those guys will step up...

I'd agree with that. Too many times folks want to pull the plug on a kid if he doesn't light it up in year one. I wouldn't be surprised to see the light go on for Wilcox in year two or three

Drafting someone in the first round like Carpenter is trying to get a player at a position for a while. Signing a 32 year old safety for a year, every year is probably getting a player on the decline and not really solidifying the position, its putting it off and putting it off, which is why we still have a need there.

Not really sure how you can compare the too.

Nvm lets just keep signing 30+ year safeties every year, for one year, maybe we will strike gold.

Yeah. That's even in the ball park of what I'm saying...

The Carpenter point IS pertinent if you follow along because you are saying not to do something in the future because other players in the past didn't work out. My whole point is that it comes down to player evaluation. For every Livings there is a Columbo and for every Carpenter there is a Ware. Your reason for not doing it is short sighted. And don't forget I have been the one saying I'd take Dix in the first round. I'm not trying to find a 10 year starter as a cheap, veteran FA. I'm trying to find someone that can play in case all else fails. My way we at worst end up with Allen. Your way we at worst end up with Heath...take your pick...

Actually your answer is short sighted and I'm thinking of the future. Position needs to be upgraded and it's not being upgraded by old vets.

Whatever, clearly after 6 or 7 posts you still haven't read what I've said on the topic if you think for a second I don't want to use a draft pick there. you are right. I changed my mind. Let's not bring in any cheap veteran FAs to fill out the roster and provide valuable depth. Let's hope for the best and if it doesn't work out, who gives a shit...

OK, obviously that was a little "tongue in cheek". I have no problem with him at all. Just seems he's ignoring what I'm saying on the topic...Sometimes it's best to move on...

What do you guys think about looking at Daunte Robinson for vet minimum? CB formerly of the Texans and the Falcons....I think he had a short stint with the Chiefs. I wouldn't mind even trying to look at him as a FS. Of course we still need to draft a S.

Rumor has it the Bills may target Evans in draft & release S. Johnson. Would you bring him in after the draft, if a impact WR is not drafted?

Wouldn't mind him or Antonio Holmes. I know Holmes may have some issues but, he'd be great splitting time in the slot. I'm not totally sold on this wr core if Dez goes down. I don't want to stunt the growth of the youngsters but, we need a veteran who can play and even stretch the field. I'm starting to belief the Cowboys aren't confident that Harris is anything more than a JAG.

Holmes hasn't been reliable the last couple of years & Harris value is more ST.

:agree: with both statements, but I think he could be used as a role player and maybe he takes to the role of being an on the field mentor. Not likely at all to happen, but I wouldn't be upset if it did.

With a QB like Romo throwing to him, Johnson would put up huge numbers in Dallas. Look at the crap QB's this kid has played with

He was the Miles Austin of the Jets & I believe he had character issue in the past. I know he did with the Steelers.

He could also step in as a #1 of Dez goes down
