I saw it on some other players in games last night. I don't remember which ones though.

I thought there was an organized union involved in other stuff I read. Maybe I was wrong.

These kids are getting high priced scholarships that most kids without academic or athletic scholarships could never afford. They are getting paid in that way. This is a much more complicated issue than most people want to admit.

Good for these kids. They deserve more. The average athletic scholarship comes up about 3,000 dollars a semester short of what these kids really need. They aren't allowed to have jobs to make any money, they are used in video games and jersey sales yet they never see a dime of that. It's horseshit. Good for the kids.

These kids are going to schools where the average yearly cost for tuition is at least $30,000. This isn't juco education. If they want to pay for their own tuition then I'm ok with them getting paid.

The majority of these scholarships come up 3,000 per semester short. What about that don't you understand? Where are yet supposed to get the money if mommy and daddy can't afford to give it to them. And for a ton of these guys that tuition is useless. They won't ever get a degree because their degree is what they are doing on that field. For a guy like Mariota or Gurley that tuition doesn't mean jack shit. They aren't staying 4 years. They aren't working on a degree they would ever use. These kids deserve to be paid like a job, which is what they have.

That's their own damn fault. If they don't appreciate the education that they are being given, that's on them. Where do you draw the line? Women's lacrosse players are supposed to demand money as well? It's not as simple as you're making it appear.

As much as I can see why these guys are doing this, and in some ways agree with them, the NCAA are probably going to make joining a union an eligibility violation

I'm not sure what schools and scholarships are included in your 3K a semester figure. SU's webpage reads an undergraduate degree at SU is $57K....$46K for a Graduate degree.

All kids are allowed jobs....the rub is the time to go to school, practice and a job is pretty hard.

The money the school "makes off these kids" goes to build things like classrooms. Like all degree programs, the pot of gold is at the end of the rainbow. When engineers at schools start making money off their research, then I'll consider football players making money too.

For me....if kids already on scholarships start making money off the school, I'll probably drop college sports from my list of activities.

I don't watch much pro ball because they are overpaid.

NCAA College athletes deserve to be paid - ESPN

This article has it exactly right.

And you have still yet to answer the question I've asked you twice now. So we will try a 3rd time. These scholarships come up way short of what these kids actually need. What are yet suppose to do to get the money they need? They can't get jobs. What if mommy and daddy can't give them the money? I'd love for your job to start paying you in "training" for a job that has nothing to do with what you do now and see how much you fucking liked it.

Good for who? The 1 percent who would actually make money on their merchandise? The 2.4 percent who are good enough to make it to the NFL? If you pay these guys, then you have to pay ALL student-athletes. That isn't happening. You have to be fair to ALL the players, and in reality, the only guys that are really crying about being paid are the ones that care less about the education they have been tendered. They are the ones that only see dollar signs, and are using CFB to make it to the NFL. Sorry, but I have no pity for them. If they want to achieve their dream of a big payday in the NFL, then they need to sacrifice to get it. Otherwise, they can try a different route to the NFL.

Take away their scholarships. Make them pay for college from the money they get to play college football. Fine by me. Let them pay for their Obamacare. Make them pay for tutors. Make them actually have to go to class. No more free food for them, they have to pay for their food just like normal college students.

Here is an idea, they can play football at the college of their choice, but they must take their classes online from the Military Academies.

Some good life lessons can be made here.

Right now, the players feel they are entitled to more more more more more.

if you thought college football and college basketball season tickets were expensive now, just wait.

Why do you have to pay them all? America is a capitalist fucking society? Why should college pay be different?

I get your argument but its a flimsy one at best. Are other students supposed to get paid as well? For going to school and making the grades that are required of them? I understand that the NCAA is making money off of the high profile players and schools. This is about college football and to a lesser extent, basketball. The kids in sports that are playing sports that don't make a lot of money are in the same boat in regards to scholarship and possibly not having enough money all the time. You can't pay student athletes unless you are prepared to pay them all.

These kids have a choice. They CHOSE to accept a scholarship to play football in exchange for an education. They KNEW what they were getting into. Nobody twisted their arms to do so. Perhaps, they should have just went to open tryouts for a NFL team. After all, they have so much talent that they deserve to be paid in college. Right?
