I still stand by the fact that if COVID-19 was like polio and it would have been killing young children in the beginning, you would have seen a very different response as far as how serious people would have responded to it and listening to science and health care professionals. Instead, it was labelled as an elderly person disease and it's just another flu and the general feeling was it's no big deal. Once that message gets out, it's difficult to change people's opinions.
I wish I agreed.
What if it initially affected children in crowded areas or lower income families? Or minorities?

At this point in the US I am just going to assume about 45% of the country cares nothing about anyone else except maybe their own families. Maybe I will be proven wrong some day.

Some day, when many of those 45% die off, the percentage will get lower.

The problem is that 45% likes to reproduce like hamsters.

It is going to be interesting to see how COVID impacts the electoral map by the time the next Presidential election rolls around. COVID death could be a significant factor in places like Georgia and Arizona.

Both states went to Biden by less than 15,000 votes. And both states have already lost 20,000-25,000 people to COVID - nearly all voting age and more than likely heavily red voters (especially as this thing continues). That certainly doesn't automatically cement a 35-40K win for the next Democratic candidate in those states, but it's a hell of a leg up. Especially when you consider that COVID has most impacted seniors who are the most reliable voting bloc.

And it could impact places that had been solidly red like North Carolina that were already showing net migration patterns in the blue direction. Trump won by 175,000ish in 2016, but only by 75,000ish in 2020. Net migration patterns are already favoring a Democratic candidate for President over time. COVID may accelerate that.

Then again, there's an excellent argument for the fact that if the GOP didn't run an obviously stupid and borderline illiterate sociopath there may be votes to steal in the middle.

On the flipside, if the GOP doesn't run another illiterate sociopath, there may be many MAGA votes lost.

Well it's certainly a possible turnout issue. Those red hats certainly aren't voting for the Dem either way, but they may not show up for a non-Trump person. I'm just saying it's scary to think that Trump did all this with practically no brain, knowledge, or skills. Imagine how dangerously effective he could have been with a brain. Scary.

Article says the NBA “would never” ask megastars like Lebron or Giannis to do PSA’s for the vaccine to encourage vaccinations among Black Americans who have the lowest vaccination rate among all demographics.

Um, why not?
