That's definitely a part for a lot of people, but there are a lot of people who are such firm single-issuer voters that they'll overlook ANYTHING else about a candidate. So they themselves may not be racist, but if the racist is the one who most strongly supports their issue (say...guns or abortion) they'll vote for that person anyway.
