Mayfield had a fully guaranteed 1-year $18M+ contract. Cutting him wasn't an option. There was no good reason for Mayfield to take a $3M pay cut so he could be put in the worst possible playing situation. If the Browns were willing to pay $10M to move him he should have forced them to pay the full $13M. If they refused he should have sat on the Browns bench.

I believe he made a bad decision, but it was his decision to make, not mine.

Ah thanks for the clarification.

I'm not sure how he could have forced the Browns to retain him and pay out more money in the process. They wanted him gone to avoid a QB controversy.I can see why Baker didn't want to stay, he wanted the chance to start and rebuild his reputation in the process. With Sam Darnold as his competition that sounded like a good spot for him at the time.

Browns fans can now stop jabbing needles into the legs of their Watson voodoo dolls.

Contract I agree

Argument could be made regarding the Herschel Walker trade

there's some irony in that now you get to root for the lesser sex pest.

Hopefully they go with Jameis. DTR was looking like faster Deshaun. Jameis may have only gone 5 for 11 but he was pushing the ball down the field. Deshaun was checking down literally every single play.

Out of 566 qbs who threw at least 100 passes since 2007, Deshaun Watson 2024 had the lowest passes for first down out of 566 qbs. His season qbr rates out similarly to Jamarcus Russell 2009.

If just trade aspect and not contract a strong argument could be made the SF deal for Lance and Carolina for Young were as bad. Didn't those also cost three firsts? At least Watsopn deal was for an established player (who many teams badly wanted).

But, yeah, money changes things.

so true about Watson....until the last drive when he finally through a couple downfield. Then of course goes down. Granted only going by memory but seemed like DTR was willing to throw downfield. also made quicker decisions to get out of the pocket and run, too.

Tough call on who to play.....if trying to win I think Jameis would be the better option. could also see wanting to see what they have in DTR. doubt either is a longterm solution though.

Go Cavs/OSU?

Best case scenario is this is one of maybe 6 of the worst trades ever.

What would this team look like with Baker and the picks

The D is still very very good despite all time all time awfulness on O.

The Browns are all but forced to use their first round pick on a qb so that we can cycle paying Deshaun.

This is really hard to figure out but just incredible. I mean, the guy at the very least was decent pre-injury. was it the injury and never recovering? Did he just forget how to play? His actions don't make him out to be a guy who doesn't care.

I was among the few who wanted to see what we could do with a healthy Baker in 2022 as still figured a chance he was good......but, yeah, also among those who wanted Watson when I heard we could get him.

Better not to think about what might have been at this point.....Ugh.

But would not draft a QB just to take one. I mean a really high pick and a guy we love? Sure......but if we are picking somehow in the 8-15 range I'm not taking a guy who might be our 3rd or 4th choice at the position.

I was confused on DTR throwing 24 times...like when did all that happen
