Any chance Denver trades down for a High/mid 2 and another pick.

Or trades up to 20 and grab a guy they want?

What's more likely

What happened to all your questions about how fast they are? With your encouragement and leadership the Broncos fielded one of the fastest teams in the NFL last year. Better draft them and get them out there before they are playing like a 2 day old Helium balloon.

To your question - I don't think the Broncos are going to draft 10 guys - for salary cap and roster space reasons - then are going to try and get guys they like a lot - they will move up or move down and jump around (IMO).

The appropriate attorney response: it depends.

I agree with Mingo, we won't be using all 10 of the current picks. Which, of course, means that at some point we will move up. I think it is more likely we move up in the 2nd or 3rd round than the first. But that's where " it depends" factors in. If a guy they love is unexpectedly there at 20, then it isn't unlike Elway to go get him. That would be the short term view.

From a long term standpoint, what if a team desperately wants to get back into the first round and will give up a 2nd round pick next year to do so ( depending on the team and how high they might be projected to select next year) and maybe an additional mid round pick this year. Suddenly the long term view is how good a position could we be in next year to move up having a first, two seconds and three thirds (all tradable) next year if there is a QB we really want?

So I'd say it depends on the opportunity that is presented during the draft.

After reading this I think Elway will more likely go more long term route :)

Walt's mocks going to 5 rounds now...

1.31 - DE Robert Nkemdiche, Ole Miss - Sort of like Shane Ray last year in the sense of top 10 talent that is falling because of red flags. Not like Ray in the sense that Ray made one mistake that cost him 20 or so spots in the draft, while Nkemdiche made his mistake, but also has the "takes plays off" talk around him and didn't produce as much as people thought in college.

2.63 - WR Braxton Miller, THE Ohio State - Man, I'm torn on this guy. One one hand, I think he is tremendously talented and I think Kubes could conjour all sorts of fun plays for him. On the other hand, the whole former QB turned WR doesn't work out all that well most of the time. Pittsburgh has got lucky with it a couple times, but Ward and Randel-El were the only two examples I could come up with. Although, like Ward, Miller did actually play some WR in college, unlike a lot of guys who try to make the transistion after their SR season.

3.95 - QB Dak Prescott, Mississippi State - Like I have said before, I think this is the right spot for him. And if we like him half as much as has been rumored, I think we should be elated that he fell to us here. I trust Elway and Kubes and they seem to like this guy the best out of all the QBs in the draft. Or maybe, at least the one's we have a realistic shot at drafting.

3.98 (C) - LB Tyler Matakavich, Temple - I really like this guy. I think this may be a bit of a reach for him as a lot of sites have him as more of a 5th rounder, but I think his floor is a great special teams player and his ceiling is a great player. He doesn't have the flash or speed or strength to wow anybody in the pre draft workouts, but he is always around the ball on gameday. Good things happen to guys like that.

4.136 (C) - DE/DT Jihad Ward, Illinois - Kind of sounds like a terrorist, but also sounds like a great value. I've seen him going in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, so if he drops to us here, I would have to like it.

5.144 - OT John Theus, Georgia - Another solid value from what I have been seeing. Waited a bit too long to address the OLine for my liking and I'm not sure how versatile he is. I know Kubes has stated he wants guys who can play multiple positions on the line. But, like I said, I like the value.

@SpringStein @SpiritOf77 @Mingo

We going to be doing the draft contest this year? I think it's about that time to post the rules and get some educated guesses out there for these hoopsters to see. I would do it, but I have forgotten the point system. Plus, I'm kinda lazy.

I think that is Mingo's game. I think the rules are whatever he can remember. I think he will change the rules as the contest goes along if it helps him win. ;)

History it is always a good thing ... Time to repeat the processes

I just threw up in my mouth Walt!. I do like Matakavich. Watched him on one of those Senior bowl dealybob games and the kid was all over the field making plays. 3rd rd is too high for him though Imo. Really don`t like one and two. Still thinking Denver finds a trade out partner in rd 1 and gets an extra 2nd +

It seems like most mock drafts now having us taking Paxton Lynch at 31.

I would say more likely they trade up than down. They have a ton of draft picks already and are going to again have probably 10 draft picks again next year so if they have a guy they really like makes sense to trade up and get him. Throw in having that 5th year option is a very nice bonus.

Well, he needs to do something. Iirc, his track record isn't very good in this contest. Not that mine is much better, but I did score a win two years ago, i think.

I won in 2006 when I nailed the Cutler trade up to #11. Basically that was worth like 30 points.

I'm with you on the trade down. I don't think I would mind that at all. If we could get a first next year out now the deal, I would really like that. Gives us ammo to get a QB in what should be a better class for them.
