I don't understand the mocks that have us going DL with the first pick

Tyler Boyd, WR, Pitt

Am I the only one who sees us going WR early right now?

We need a 3rd if Latimer isn't the answer and Sanders contract is up. Next year.

Current time when people had us going DE our two starting DE's were UFAs. Makes a ton of sense to me.

That and the price tag for 34 DE is crazy pricy

I'd LOVE to see Scooby Wright come to Denver. That kid has a motor on him that doesn't quit. If we don't grab him, I'd bet money New England gives him a long look. They seem to like Arizona standouts.

Watching Pac12 games - I too have a great appreciation for Scooby Wright - I think he fits with Trevathan and Marshall with a little Tom Jackson thrown in. If his injury checks out - he could be a draft value pick.

Agree with DC - The Broncos will look to get a skill position with the draft - those are the expensive contracts - you can get a value on through the rookie and draftee payment system. Another bonus is the WRs are coming out of college largely ready to play - these days.

Scooby would be great in our defense. Durability is a bit of a concern but one of those guys who is a monster in the pads.

I like Wright but who wouldn't. Still,if I had my furthers, I would take Jack. Much better in pass coverage. Both coming off injures. Don't think Denver will be looking Lb in first two rds anyway unless fa changes that.

Be pretty tough to move up from #32 to the top 12 to grab Jack.

Oh I think it could be a real possibility. There is a decent chance that Trevathan is not resigned by the Broncos. That to me leaves a decent size hole in our defense. We have some in house options that have shown some promise in Zaire Anderson and Todd Davis but I don't think either of those guys are the all-around players that Trevathan has been. Both need some major work in coverage.

I honestly could see Elway sticking with his usual plan in the draft of going defense early. He has used the 1st pick in the draft every year on a defensive player and so far that has worked out well with Von, Wolfe, Sly, Roby, and Ray all making great impacts for the team this year. I would say OLB and Corner are probably the only 2 positions I see this team not using that 1st round pick on for the defensive side of the ball. DL you always need depth and no idea what happens with Malik. ILB as I said above. Safety no matter what we need a 3rd safety not only for depth this next year but because Darian Stewart will be on the last year of his contract so need to start figuring out his replacement and I would love to have a 2nd year guy that knows the defense if we don't resign him.

Offensively OL obviously is a concern depending what they think of the guys coming back from injury and development of the guys we have playing now. QB depending if we resign Osweiler or not. RB as Hillman possibly gone and Anderson struggling to stay healthy. I have seen quite a few Mock Drafts actually having Ezekiel Elliot going to the Broncos. He really is a great fit but I doubt he makes it to our pick. TE probably not and WR probably not as have Sanders and DT signed through this next season but I do think at some point we do look WR to add depth.

So a lot of ways we can go and a lot depends what happens in FA for us. We could go so many ways in who we resign and who we maybe bring in.

CD, I really agree with your post above - all the way to "WR probably not". For the same reason as you give for Srewart being in the last year of his contract, don't brush over that next year is Sander's last year. And with what we are paying DT I'm pretty certain Manny will get more on the market than we'll be able to afford. With Latimer not showing signs yet of a breakthrough, even now we are depth limited at WR.

I've been told it's a really good year for WRs, so I'll be surprised if we don't take one - and even quite possibly early.

I will add a thought I had not came up with till just now .. We got the best DL coach at getting talent to shine though .. this could mean no more high round picks on DL... Just pick up UFA's that are young that don't pan out cuts ..

Then Draft DL in the later part of the draft (3rd and on )and let Bill Kollar work his magic .

With in that Idea take OL a little different in that We are not going to see as huge as improvement as say a Gibbs work with OL from a Draft so maybe a little earlier we will go with drafting prospects .. To speed up the learning process

The Texans picked a number of top Dline early while Kollar was there. The Broncos will take value at the number 1 pick - that's the recent history.

Unless we have more confidence in Latimer then we are showing .. I really think we go WR in the first 3 rounds. Manny's contract up after next year, and we have so much money into DT that unless Sanders gives us a discount price he can probably get a big 3 year deal elsewhere.

Jack is projecting to go top 10 to 15 right now. Scooby is falling into the 3rd round in some mocks. That's really the only reason I'm bringing him up.

How's the head on Boyd? I've read that he has some off the field flags, but I haven't seen exactly any incidents that have been brought up.
