The Celtics teams had far superior talent overall than any other team during his era. And despite all of this talent, Boston barely beat the Lakers in three separate finals, each in seven games.

In four game seven wins against teams led by Wilt Chamberlain, Boston won by a combined nine points. When Boston finally met up with a team that was just as talented—a 1967 Philadelphia 76ers cast that included Chamberlain, Hal Greer, Chet Walker, and Billy Cunningham—the Celtics were unable to win.

"Bill Russell dominated Wilt and the Lakers all by himself." - LogicMan (and Bill Russell agrees)

Wouldn't it be funny if LogicMan was Bill Russell.

He's desperately searching for another quote from a Laker great, that claims Russell would have beaten the Showtime Lakers, blindfolded, legs tied together and an amputated arm.

West is on record saying that Magic is the best ever and the '85 Lakers were the greatest team to ever play the game.

Period.

Jerry West is on record as saying that Bill Russell should have been the logo and that the logo patch on every teams uniform should be 11" tall x 11" wide - Logicman

Say, speaking of 11, did you know that I have 11 rings? - Bill Russell

11 titles before the league got watered down . And he won those against wilt . Facts are facts, but do believe today's watered down league is "tougher"

Yes...watered down. You realize if there was some magic time machine that likely every team right now could beat all those 60s teams, right? Hell, Kevin Durant is the same size and Bill Russell and KD at that size has 4x the handle of Bob Cousy. There's exponentially more talent not only in the US but around the world than there was in the 60s. And they're way more developed. And that's simply because the game has gotten more popular. It is logically impossible for that reason for the league to be more watered down now.

I read it and Jerry West never said Russell was his favorite player. Also, we don't know if he was talking about all-time or during that era. He said if he had a choice, he'd take Russell and that Russell never ceased to amaze him. If I had to venture a guess, I'd say he meant in that era since he also said that Magic Johnson is the best player he's ever seen.

Also, Russell and the Celtics won because of his teammates much moreso than Russell. If you put Wilt on those Celtics teams and Russell on the 76ers/Lakers teams that Wilt was on, not only would Wilt be the one with 11 rings, he might even get the 2 that Russell missed.

In the only matchup where Wilts team had talent equal to the Celtics ('66-'67 76ers) Wilts team took the Celtics out in 5 games.

So, you can try and claim that Russell is the GOAT all you want, but the facts tell a different story.

Trojan your agreeing with West then disclaiming his statement at the end. It's ok to just say I trust Jerry Wests opinion of Bills greatness. It's ok

Dude, is logicman an oxymoron or something. I never disclaimed what he said. I said that he was likely talking about his era because he has ALSO said that Magic is the best player he's ever seen.

I noticed that you ignored the rest of my post. You must be conceding those points. It's okay, you can admit that Wilt was better and Russell isn't the GOAT. It might even be cathartic for you.

And at what point did I agree with him?

Oh, and Russell was great. He was the most greatly overrated player in NBA history.

jerry west states he would choose bill over all other players (it can be argued of that era or others). But wilt played I that era. There is no supposition or discounting these assertions. But you tried

Instead one should ask why Wilt lost all those times, despite being surrounded with stars. There is a reason, and Auerbach and Russell knew what to do. Plenty of writings on how they did it

No I didn't. I acknowledged what he said, stated that I think he meant his era and stated what he has also said re: Magic.

You on the other hand, have not even acknowledged the rest of my post. That's okay, everyone else who reads it will understand the truth of it.

Wilt wasn't surrounded by other stars Einstein, Russell was. Wilt played on one team that had talent equal to the Celtics. The '66-'67 76ers and they curbstomped the Celtics in 5 games. Face it, your boy was an average player who was buoyed by a team full of all-stars and HOF'ers.

His "greatness" has been built on myth and Celtics HOF'ers who have too much class to call him out on his constant bragging.

Because the rest of your post is supposition. It's a means to try to discount that west chose Russell over wilt.

C'mon Trojan, that's what your intent was. Wests statement , from a great basketball mind, to disagree with your ascertions is the point. And I trust wests comment as it must have been controversial. I suspect he and wilt had so my tension after this

So now you know my intent? Since you're so desperate to cling to your Celtics mythology re: Russell, have at it. I'm not cool with people claiming to know my "intent".
