head-to-head numbers:
Wilt and Russell played against each other 142 times in 10 years. Russell's team won 88, Wilt's teams won 74. (14 game difference)

In those games Wilt averaged 28.7 ppg and 28.7 rpg, Russell averaged 14.5ppg and 23.7rpg

Wilt's high game vs. Russell was 62, and he had six other 50+ point games against Russell . Russell's high game against Wilt was 37, and he had only two other 30+ point games against Wilt.

Wilt's record 55 rebound game was against Russell, and he had six other 40+ rebound games vs. Bill.
Russell only had one 40+ rebound night against Wilt.

As I said, I wasn't alive to see them play but other than the ring count, I don't see how you can say Russell was better.

In my lifetime is Hakeem and Kareem. Oddly enough, I enjoyed watching 'Dream' play more than any center in my lifetime. He was so graceful and made it look so effortless. He was incredible.

It is you who should try harder. You see, when you repeat your same old tired and blatantly incorrect statements it is how we all know you have lost and are desperate.

"Blatantly incorrect." :L

Wilt dominated Russell his entire career. The numbers prove it even if Russell's own admission doesn't.

The next thing you know, Bot here will be telling us that Wilt's 100 point game was all a hoax.

"Bill Russell is such a nice guy that he actually LET Wilt get 62 points and 55 rebounds on him."

:L

Agreed. The best footwork of any NBA player EVER, not any center ever. Any PLAYER ever. Unreal. Only guy I ever watched that didnt need the benefit of the extra 1-2 steps big time NBA guys get because he didnt use them.

And I HATED the Rockets but he was just too good not to appreciate. Same with Larry and Jordan.

Hakeem did things we'll probably never see again. That's why it's such a farce to be sitting here debating the "greatness" of Bill Russell who wasn't even the best player on his own team. There are too many truly great players to be wasting time talking about someone so hopelessly average.

Heres a quick trivia question for you. Only 1 player that faced MJ more than 30 times in his career had a higher ppg average in their head to head matchups than MJ did.... Any answers???

Doesn't really matter who we have at #1 right now...LeBron is going to take their spot..that much is a given. For the record I have Jordan at the spot...for the time being.

I'll believe it when I see it. Far from "given."

We're trying to have a serious discussion. Take that Lebron bullshit somewhere else. I started a thread that is all about Lebron. Go there and post about him.

He's probably never heard of any of these players we're talking about.

Centers IMO will never get the credit they deserve when it come to GOAT discussions because subconsciously we discount their stats and relevance because of their size.

Huh?

The majority of people's / media's top 10 consists of 6 Centers (if counting Duncan as a Center) Most have some type of combo of Kareem, Russell and Wilt in the top 5.

If you're considered top 5..... then you're in the argument of GOAT in one way or another.

I dont know if its a given BUT if he continues to play like he has the last 10 years for the next 6-7 years and maintains a high level for another 3-4 after that Id say that you are probably correct. The man is a beast. Hes the modern day Big O but with more titles already. I need to see it for another 6-7 years but if it happens he will be my number 1 for sure.

I was thinking it could be Dominique, if it were at a different position. :noidea:

Thats the winner!!! Nique was 31.8 ppg, MJ was 30.6 in their 45 meetings.
