They are all good choices, just think alomar is the best. Still cant believe whitaker was dropped from HOF ballot in his first year of eligibility. I believe he is reinstated this year.

Not sure they deserve to win, but Alomar, Sandberg and Kent belong on the short list, at least.

Yeah, I'd take Roberto Alomar over everyone on that list.

I see it to be a 3 man race between: eddie Collins, Joe Morgan, and rogers Hornsby...

and they are the only ones in the conversation IMO

Cant really decide between them 3 yet...

I thought it would be Hornsby in a land slide, with a few votes for Collins... I'm surprised Alomar is not on the list. He'd be in my top ten....

I can't stand him as a commentator, but my vote goes to Joe Morgan. Rogers Hornsby is a close second, and I wouldn't have an argument against him for the best.

If I did ten off the top of my head Alomar and Sandberg would have been there instead of Frisch and Grich.

II'm not a big fan of WAR, but I do feel when having a discussion like this it is a good place to start. I took the top 9 off brWAR career and added Jackie Robinson.

Grich has a 71 he was a surprise to me. I believe he was the MVP in 81, but I didn't realize he had that good of a career.

Frisch is at 70

Sandberg was at 67

Alomar was at 66

Both one good season away according to WAR

i too am not a WAR guy, but i like JAWS a lot... I like the combination of a players Best 7 seasons to count More than the rest of the players career, while still including the rest of the players career... I usually start with JAWS just to get my list...

I'm not familiar with JAWS. I have heard people talking about a 7 year WAR. I am lazy though and find WAR easier to find.

Actually it is equally easy... If not even easier, especially in questions like this...

Just go to Baseball references--->leaders---> position

Agreed. Alomar had some impressive longevity, but Utley's 05-09 was an incredible 5 year stretch among 2B.

Grich was always regarded as a very good defensive 2B. But he was also a pretty good hitter. Career .266/.371/.424, 125 OPS+ (for comparison, Mattingly had a 127 OPS+; Jim Rice had a 128 OPS+) as a middle infielder. He was very good at getting on base, and also flashed some pop.

MVP's debatable, Dwight Evans and Rickey Henderson had some very good cases that year themselves.

I have a hard time comparing the speed of eddie collins to the power of Rogers Hornsby

and i have a hard time comparing the generational speed guy of eddie collins vs Joe Morgan

I don't know if i can vote in this one, but the winner HAS to be one of these three... any other answer is just Un-American
