Lots of really good movies on that list.
The ones I liked the best:

Dances with Wolves
Silence of the Lambs
Unforgiven
Forrest Gump

I picked Silence of the Lambs as the best, although I have seen Dances and Gump more times than any of those movies.

Never was a huge fan of Schindlers list, good movie but doesn't make the cut on that list.
Saving Private Ryan was a good movie, but the first part was great and the 2nd half just kind of fell flat.

Funny that the best 2 movies of the 90s (Shawshank and Pulp Fiction) didn't make the list.

I have a hard time choosing between the rest. Gump had a fantastic soundtrack. Silence of the Lambs are fairly revolutionary. I probably like American Beauty more than most. I'm leaning towards Unforgiven.

SPR and Unforgiven are head and shoulders over the rest, with SPR easily taking the crown.

For the most part, though, a solid group of flicks. Only about 4 or 5 have no business in a discussion like this...

Sense and Sensability
Bugsy
English Patient
Shakespeare in Love

To me, it came down to Titanic and SPR.

I picked Titanic, not because it was my favorite on the list but I did think that it was the best made movie. James Cameron did do a great job directing it. The main story behind it obviously worked as it got millions of girls to go see it over and over again. It was a sappy chick flick with graphics that look so real.

My favorite movie on the list is Braveheart and SPR. I don't even know what Bugsy and Scent of a Woman is. Shakespeare in Love got AA over Saving Private Ryan is crazy.

None of the those movies do I have a desire to watch again, like Clayton said it stupid Shawshank didn't win. That is the only movie talked about here I watch again and again.

I don't watch movies based on awards. Good thing as I would just never watch movies. Same goes for any award type crap like they have for music.

Braveheart is my favorite so it got my vote. Unforgiven (which apparently isn't a word according to this site's spell check) and SPR aren't too far behind.

Haven't seen all these but not Titanic. Typical James Cameron snoozefest propelled by the Hollywood hype machine.

I voted Silence of the Lambs because both the story and acting were so good.

But SPR
Schindler's List
Braveheart
American Beauty

weren't slouches either.

Dances with Wolves
Unforgiven.

A good decade.

The fact that Shakespear In Love even got nominated, let alone won the AA, leaves a person SMH.
