Is it odd that Tom Hanks is "best supporting actor" when he plays Mr. Rogers in that movie.

I thought the same thing...if Mr Rogers isn't the lead, who is?

I haven't watched A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood myself, but apparently, though the movie was marketed around Tom Hanks and Mr. Rogers because they are the famous names, the actual movie instead focuses on the journalist character whom Matthew Rhys plays.

I have only seen 2 of the Best Pics so far (Joker and Irishman). Both were good, but Irishman was a Scorsese cookie-cutter. We have seen that flick already. And Di Niro as a 20-something? Too jarring. Joker has my vote so far.

I haven’t seen any of the Best Actress films yet, but Thieron in an anti-FNC movie? That gets all the votes.

Only seen Joker and Hollywood for best actor. Leo was good, but Earth-Shattering. Phoenix was immersive. I suspect he will join Jack and Heath.

Thanks. Not sure how I missed that.

I like QT, but Hollywood didn’t do a whole heck of a lot for me. Not a bad movie. But nothing spectacular.

How is Leo in the “Best Actor” category, but Pitt is in the “Supporting Actor” category? I felt we were seeing Pitts story more so than Leo’s story. Didn’t Pitt have more screen time as well?

This is the only CLEAR outcome in this year’s class, I think.

How is Leo in the “Best Actor” category, but Pitt is in the “Supporting Actor” category? I felt we were seeing Pitts story more so than Leo’s story. Didn’t Pitt have more screen time as well?

I was just going through the same process in my mind.

The two actor performances that blew me away this year was Brad Pitt and Joe Pesci. So of course they need to square off for an award. Kind of bullshit to me, as I would have considered Pitt and DiCaprio to both be leads in Hollywood. I thought Leo was very very good, but he isn't winning that category...I can see Joaquin winning that. But put Pitt in the Best Actor category in place of Leo and I would see him all the way. Hollywood was better than decent to me.....but Pitts performance was unbelievable.

Pesci was certainly a Supporting Actor.....and he deserves this award.

With both of them there.....well....I think it should be one of them. I just don't know who. Probably will still land on Pesci.

So just curious which movie people thought was the best Oscar nominated film of 2019.

For this discussion, you can include any movie that was nominated for an Oscar.

I've seen 8 of the 9 Best Picture nominations. Tough call for me between Once Upon A Time in Hollywood and 1917.

Knives Out was absolutely fantastic as well.

I saw 5 of the 9... But I will unlikely see the Irishman as it is way too long, and heard that it wasn't worth it... and I am not a war movie fan, so I am in no rush to see 1917, I may see little women, but I am in no rush to see it since that is not my type...

I do want to see Jojo…

Parasite was very good... But did not love the very end(after the climax party scene)… but I feel like with foreign films, it is hard to fully appreciate them since the culture is so different... especially the Asian cultures...

Knives out was by far my favorite movie of the year... it was not just good, but it was fun... I like fun movies...

1917 is not your typical war movie. Yes it is set during a war and there are explosions en such, but it's more of a story of the struggle of men to overcome adversity. The cinematography was simply incredible.

Irishman is worth seeing but I really wouldn't put it at the same level as OUATIH, 1917 or Parasite.

Parasite is definitely an interesting movie. Much the same way that Snowpiercer was. The class struggle was more specifically Korean in Parasite but still very interesting. Still haven't figured out where I would put that movie. 3 or 4 or maybe even 5 for me.

JoJo was very enjoyable. Sam Rockwell was his usual self. IMO, best performance from ScarJo I've ever seen. Ending was just OK though.

I think my biggest problem with how the Parasite ended was that it seemed to be a love piece between father and son... and they glossed by the daughter...
