Also, it'd be a blast from the past to see Smith to Vernon Davis again.

So your posting a DVOA that says Cousins has averaged the 9th best DVOA the last 3 years compared to Smith's 8th best Verage to disprove me? Even if you think the 2 guys are the same caliber the Dkins still saved probably 20 million bucks and that's totally ignoring the entire winning aspect. Which is kind of a big deal
Last year was the only year that Smith was better than Cousins in DVOA over the last 3 years, since Cousins became a full time starter. If you think that means that it isn't close between Smith and Cousins then I don't know what to tell you.

He just pled not guilty to 9 charges, so he's down to 54....Probably profiled him after he was going 105 mph in a 45 mph zone.....He was arrested in May also.....Probably a candidate for the cover of EA's Madden....

2 years ago it is really hard to imagine Washington bungling the Cousins resigning as bad as they have.

They now will have paid for Cousins/Smith 6 years $138 million.

To give an idea: Andrew Luck had just inked a 6 year $140 million 2 years ago.

So now not only do they have an older and lesser QB in Smith than they did in Cousins, they will have paid more for it if they would have just inked Cousins right away. And to top it off they had to throw in a 3rd rounder and a good young player to make it all happen.

Amazing stupidity on their part.

Fine. Even if you discount winning and think it's a toss up the Skins still saved 15-20 million and got a 3rd. Would you trade Fuller for a 3 and 20 million ?

1. How did it save the Redskins 15-20 million?
2. How did they get a third? They gave up a third

Oh shit my bad lol. I'm tired. Just got up. Lol. Reports I'm seeing are Cousins in going to demand 100 million guaranteed . I don't think he gets that but I bet he gets 85-90 ( that's where I came up with the 20 million ). The draft pick I just screwed up on because I'm stupid lol.

Good trade for both teams from what I can see...KC got cap relief, a pick back and a starting caliber CB...WAS can finally move on realizing who their trigger man is for the next few yrs.

Okay so the real question is, would you rather have

a) An extra $15-$20 million over 5 years or so

or

b) Fuller and a 3rd round pick

or

c) Fuller and a 3rd round pick, plus save extra money because you don't give it to Alex Smith who you aren't going to win a Super Bowl with anyway

I'm taking option C.

Rmilla is projecting a comp pick which as far as I can tell would be correct, but that 3rd is a much lesser 3rd than the 3rd the Skins gave up.
No he just screwed it up. They don't get a 3rd round comp pick for trading for Smith. They might get a 3rd round comp pick for letting Cousins go in free agency. Which I would have done anyway, even if Smith wasn't being traded for.

I guess that's the Crux of it. I think Smith can win a SB. He certainly gives you a shot as you're almost guaranteed to be in the playoffs . It'll be fine to see what happens

All of this.

The thing is, everyone knew they weren't going to sign Cousins long term, but they still held onto him and paid him a shit load of money for two years on the tag and then let him walk for nothing instead of trading him when he had significantly increased his value with his play.

Just epic failure.

Correlation is not the same as causation. This is the only year that he got a "not so good" defense to the postseason. And I said he was better this year than Cousins. This was easily his best year.

And he's won 2 playoff games in his career despite "almost guaranteed to be in the playoffs"

They don't get a 3rd round comp pick for trading for Smith
Right, but projected a comp as of right now based on what I am gathering is correct. If that changes, that changes.

It should be noted that is independent (or should be viewed as) of the trade so I don't really see why Rmilla brought it up when evaluating the trade.

They might get a 3rd round comp pick for letting Cousins go in free agency. Which I would have done anyway, even if Smith wasn't being traded for.

Right, which goes back to why this projection of a 3rd round comp pick should be evaluated independent of the trade.

What also doesn't make sense is acting like the 3rd's wash out, or omitting that.

Sure, but how is Washington said team? They just traded a player who was a major core piece in said scenario happening in Fuller.
