As a Redskins fan, I'm okay with this.

Cousins I think is better than Smith, but the cost it would have taken to pay Cousins would have crippled us under the salary cap, and we wouldn'thave been able to address our other needs.

Smith is overpaid at 24m, but not ludicrously so for a veteran starting QB. There are plenty of quarterbacks more overpaid than that in this league. (Soon to be including Cousins) And it gives the skins flexibility to make other moves.

This was clearly a "make the best of a bad situation" (albeit a situation that they created for themselves in the botched transition from RG3 to Captain Kirk)

Given that, it was probably the best the Skins could have hoped for
IMO they'd have been better off letting Cousins walk, waiting on FA to sign a Vet for a couple of years, and drafting a QB.
This way they keep Fuller and their draft pick, yet be in the exact same boat.

It makes too much sense so it won't happen but Cousins to the Browns would be huge. They have the cap room, buys time for Kizer, it also means they don't have to burn one of their 2 top 4 picks on a QB. You can round out the team more or move back with one of those picks.
Kizer is a big reason Cousins most likely doesn't even talk to the Browns.

Was really iffy about the Chiefs next year, but adding Fuller into the mix makes things a lot easier when it comes to the division and playoffs sans the possibility of a Cousins lead Denver (who wouldn't be a defensive juggernaut most likely)

Dude... game planning against Fuller and Peters is going to be a nightmare. That's a terrific combo platter right there.

Whomever signs Cousins will pay a premium to get him. Franchise Tag will be $25-$26M this year and he's going to want at least $26M per. Elway supposedly is looking to trade players to create some money space but spending $150M on Cousins for the next 5 years better be the right move. The cost will be 1/8th to 1/6th of the Cap.

The Jets, on the other hand are flush with money and desperately need a QB. Spending $160M-$170M for Cousins would do several things other than make them a better team. Would make them competitive in the AFC East and create a media storm in New York. It would also force the Giants to totally rethink their 2018 plans.

That would be a complete reboot style move. Might put us in better position than this move will in 3-5 years, but if it takes that long, Jay Gruden won't still be around to see it through.

This team doesn't need a complete reboot. When healthy, they're fully capable of competing with Philadelphia and Dallas in this division. They were hit very very hard by injuries this year, but they're a healthy year plus a couple of pieces away from being a playoff team. There was no FA-available QB (other than Cousins) who was a plug and play away from being ready for that situation.

Losing Fuller hurts, absolutely. And if they had resigned or tagged Cousins, then they almost assuredly could not have kept Breeland, and Fuller would have been promoted to starting CB. That would have made him crucial. But as it is, he's our 3rd (slot) CB. That's a luxury item - having a good QB is a necessity if you want to have a chance at the playoffs.

This puts us in the position of looking for a defensive back at 13. That's pretty reasonable - there are a lot of DBs that will probably go in that area. Denzel Ward, Joshua Jackson, Derwin James, maybe even Minkah Fitzpatrick if we see a Jonathan Allen type fall. That's a lot better position to be in than hoping your 3rd or 4th choice QB falls to the 13th pick, and then hoping you can somehow get him ready to start Day 1.

Franchise Tag is not an option, I'm guessing he'll get close to Carr money.
