Not terrible
Cousins is what? Top 15 QB at best?

Can't blame the Skins for not wanting to make him the highest paid player in the game
But then why buy high on Smith? If it's about the contract, you saved yourself a little bit of money because you extended Alex Smith anyway. And while doing that it cost you a pick and a great corner.

If you don't want to pay Cousins, that's fine, but then don't pay Smith and give up assets to do it.

Yeah I'm just getting the entire story, giving up Fuller was absolutely not necessary, that makes the trade far more awful

Well according to someone on here, he had an MVP-type playoff performance

Well he obviously decided to turn off his TV for an entire half of football

You don't catch lighting in a bottle 2 seasons in a row and overcome awful QB play, especially now that you're the hunted. Ask John Elway and Denver thinking they could keep winning despite the QB

Younger yes but by no tangible metric is getting better. It's not even really close . He's fine and he will get paid like he's elite but he's tier 3 or 4 at best . Worse if you value winning as part of the formula
Cousins DVOA by year:

2015: 16.9% (6th best in the NFL)
2016: 20.9% (5th)
2017: -0.4% (17th)

Smith DVOA by year:

2015: 3.0% (15th)
2016: 9.4% (10th)
2017: 18.2% (9th)

Yup. The second I saw that the Jags were sticking with Bortles, I immediately thought "welp, don't have to worry about them next year"

I'll guarantee one thing - John Elway has Kirk Cousins' agents' number on speed dial. And as soon as he is permitted to by the CBA, he's hitting send.

Absolutely

I'd have them as a big favorite with the Jets a darkhorse

All QBs are judged by Wins and Losses. He is gonna be no different. 3 years as a started, 1 playoff appearance, 1 division title, no playoff wins and got worse and worse each season. Went from 1st to last in the division. That doesn’t speak good things about Cousins or the coaching staff at Washington.
I get that, but have forever said it's a weak way to judge a guy. A bad QB on a good team gets overrated and a good QB on a bad team gets underrated. Couains is a very good QB on a bad team.
Trading for Smith was a questionable move, giving him an extension was a very bad move.
Bruce Allen fucked this up three years ago by low balling Cousins then tagging him two years in a row, which ended up paying Cousins all the Guaranteed money he originally asked for. Now they have a 34 YO QB with a guaranteed 70M contract.

Cousins is not worth $34mill a year. Smith isn’t worth $24mill at the age of 34. To get rid of a starting young promising star CB who is playing under his rookie salary is what sucks to give up. With the #13th pick Redskins weren’t going to find their replacement at QB unless you feel Mayfield would be ready day 1.

Chiefs got better
Redskins got slightly cheapier but older
I agree, and if Allen didn't fuck up three years ago you'd have Cousins @ 20M for 3 more years.

dont have the cap space unless u spend it all on 1 player:suds:

NFL Salary Cap Space | Over The Cap

And as we all know, all it takes is moving money around to get the cap space. Jerry Jones has been doing it for almost two decades. Not that I approve (as a Cowboys fan - it drives me nuts) but if Elway thinks they are a QB away (I don't) then...

The single solitary point that gets ignored over and over by people trying to justify this deal. Bruce Allen fucked up. The QB market NEVER ticks downward. You and I both remember the screeching when Romo signed his deal... and how it moved to the next deal after his. If you have a good-very good QB (which Cousins is critics be damned), you pay him at the earliest opportunity.

Jacksonville has already said they are staying with Bortles.
Teams say stuff every year tgen turn around and do just the opposite.
Personally I think the stay with Bortles, but I won't be shocked if they don't.

It makes too much sense so it won't happen but Cousins to the Browns would be huge. They have the cap room, buys time for Kizer, it also means they don't have to burn one of their 2 top 4 picks on a QB. You can round out the team more or move back with one of those picks.
