Good for Smith, I thought he was going to get sucked back into the world of defensive coaches with Seattle. Who knows if Philbin is an Andy Reid type or Brad Childress type... its tough to tell the quality of an OC when their head coach is the one who makes most of the calls on offense.

If you are on twitter, check this guy's tweets out. He was on the plane with Smith to Miami, coincidentally. You have to go back several hours to get the whole story. He also snapped a pic in FL. I find it interesting he was on a commercial flight.

@davishsuseattle*

And it was around 3AM. Why the rush on Smith's part? He know something we don't?

Maybe Alex knows something that we don't?

Maybe Condon tipped him off to something...?

McNabb is a corpse. No fucking way, he's been done for years.

With the weapons we have on offense right now, you could bring back Steve Young and we would win 11 games and the division.

If we lose out on Manning and Smith then see the cost on Flynn.

BS. McNabb has lost all mobility, conditioning, and accuracy.

If it comes down to losing out on Manning and Smith, the 49ers will be fine with CK. This isn't 2005, the 49ers young QB actually has a good team built up around him with one hell of a fine coaching staff.

If the coaches feel CK isn't ready to be unleashed, then I'm pretty sure he can do what Smith did this past season. Only make the safe throws and if it isn't there tuck it and run, or throw it in the dirt or out of bounds. It's not like Smith was doing anything incredible last season except protecting the ball.

If 18 goes 2 TN, then Hass will be available as well.

Good point, and the 49ers almost got him last year but he didn't want to be in a competition against Smith for some crazy reason. I'd imagine the interest is still there because Hass did OK with the Titans.

I would rather have CK just start if we cant get Manning, I think he is ready and he will be better than anyone thinks.

I found this amusing, on MSN.com they titled the link to the FOXSports story of Smith's trip to Miami as "Star QB visiting Dolphins?"

i'm sure Baalke/Harbaugh had considered the consequences of jumping into the Peyton "fray"? they must've have looked ahead at all the possibilities which includes signing neither QB? so the possibility of obtaining Manning outweighed the possibility of getting neither.

the 49ers are just doing what they see best for the TEAM, now and next few years. Alex Smith is doing the same and what any of us would do.

i felt somewhere around $10M a season for Alex seemed reasonable? Alex Smith isn't as money focused, he just wants respect after the season he just had. so is $8M/season reasonable, or insulting?
