They just hired Boone to make Tim Wakefield cry.

I went to the Boston baseball writers' dinner after the 2003 season and Timmah got a heartfelt standing O there...everybody knew the big loss was Grady Little's fault and not Wakefield's.

I don’t really even blame Grady Little all that much. He was screwed, either way, if things went wrong. And they did...so he was.

This all fucking sucks.

I don't think you could pick four more unrootable teams for the League Series.

Maybe if you swapped out the Astros for the White Sox.

Fuck baseball. And if you're reading this, fuck you.

Fundamentally disagree. That was one of the most egregious coaching errors I've ever seen.

Basketball is for fags anyway - might be worse than soccer. Lee Brown James moving to LA is of absolutely no consequence to me.

I am though, for the first time in my life, gaining some interest in NFL. Baker Fucking Mayfield.
Is basketball for all fags or just for a few?

Well...he was ruined for it, for sure. But I think if he brings in Timlin there and he blows it, everyone would bitch about that move. It’s not like Pedro was getting hit hard. Posada hit a little blooper that barely got out of the infield.

That said, it was also a different time. In 2018, Pedro would have been out of there much earlier. Nobody seems to throw 100 pitches anymore in the postseason.

I think people are forgetting how absolutely dominant Pedro was in those days. He had just led the league in ERA+ for the 4th time in 5 seasons. He was their stud-Little asked him if he had anything left, he said yes.

He brings in Timlin, Timlin blows it, then Little gets hammered for not listening to the best pitcher in baseball.

No win.

Pedro in the 7th - Out, Out, HR, Single, Single, K
Pedro in the 8th - Out, Double, Single, Double, Double

It was clear at the end of the 7th that he was gassed.

I was watching that game while on the treadmill and almost fell off when he was back out for the 8th. Pedro was crazy lucky to only give up one run in the 7th and his pitches had no life.
Posada's hit was just a Texas leaguer, but Jeter and Matsui jacked the ball good off Martinez and Bernie hit a solid line drive single.

The only ball his hard was the 2nd to last double.

The first double was a flyball misplayed by Nixon

Oh, by the way, Yankees? Can we stop with having Bucky Dent throw out the first pitch in elimination games against the Red Sox?

Didn't work in '04, didn't work last night. And it's f*cking cheesy as hell.

Maybe somebody faster than Nixon with better jumping ability could have caught it, but it was a well hit ball and Trot didn't hesitate or run the wrong route.

I would actually argue that Mr Dent should be executed so the team can't possibly indulge in such silliness anymore.

Yeah, they should get Aaron Boone to do that nowadays

Guess everybody can watch the video on YouTube and decide for themselves. I have never heard anybody blame Nixon for how that inning went, was watching the game and knew that Pedro was giving up a lot of hard hit balls but didn't feel like the defense was bad.
I have actually only known one Bosox fan who defended Grady, guy was an MIT grad but I sure thought he wasn't very smart with that opinion.
