49ers will release Akers before FA according to PhiladelphiaEagles.com's Adam Caplan.

Akers salary is 3.6 mill so it is a good move to free up more cash. plus he totaly shit the bed the last 3/4 of last season costing the niners at least 2 wins to the Rams.

He cost us the tie with the Rams IMO the blame can be spread around in the loss plus it was a 50 yard FGA I don't expect kickers to make that but am happy when they do.

With that said good riddance here is to getting a kicker who can make 85% of his FGA & kick the ball out of the endzone on a regular basis

He also killed any chance we had vs. the Giants as well. He missed two fg's in the first half of that game.. we go in 10-9 and we're still in it even if the Giants get that quick TD right after halftime (which was his fault too with a horribly short kickoff). He also blew a fg in the Super Bowl and the flag saved his butt.

Doesn't hurt if that if the previous season taught us anything the young strong legged kicker is the way to go.

I'm sure we're spending a draft pick on a kicker especially since we have way more 7th round picks than we'll ever need.
