My "favorite" pitching stat is still Total Innings. Says a lot about a guy when his manager deems him staying on the mound a better option than going with a reliever. And that alters the ERA of a few guys considerably (JV, coughcough.).

I'm with you on WHIP being very telling. I like pitchers who go after batters. And guys that nibble or avoid the zone bother me. (Never really could see Arrietta as a CYA hopeful this year because of it.

And I'm the same with relievers. I don't value them nearly as much as starters. They have their own award. But I do value guys like Miller who can hold down various roles. (John Hiller is crazy underrated imo.)
Where do you rank Gaylord Perry all-time among pitchers?

Idk.

Somewhere between Rube Wadell and Burt Blyleven.

(Waddell was a crazy SOB, if you haven't read up on him, you'll like it when you do.)
I read his own personal story, told by him when he was ~80 in "The Glory of Their Times"

Omar...there are no stats to qualify or quantify dougplayer. His "stats" are beyond Sabermetrics. They are beyond Euclidian geometry or Algebriac notation. His stats derive from synaptic connections that 99.999% of the population do not possess.

Awesome.

He's one of my Alltime favorites.
Did you ever read that book? I never finished it. He was the first or second person interviewed IIRC. I should get it from the library again

It couldn't have been told by him, he would have been dead. I think it was Sam Crawford talking about him in his chapter for like 4 or 5 pages.

Nope. I've thumbed thru it, but never dove in.

Used it for quotes on some papers. Always bad about finding what I could use instead of actually reading entire books. And that was before I had a cell phone. Now I have a hard time reading all the way thru iffy's awkward advances on Douglass.

He died really young.

Still playing baseball, in some capacity, I think. (Not the day he died, but you know what I mean.)

It's very possible that WL is the only thing Ricky will have over JV and as you mentioned that's run support. JV has had 7 or 8 NDs where he went 7 and gave up 2 or fewer runs... a couple of losses like that as well.

To be exact, the Tigers scored 1 run or less in 8 of Verlander's starts. That has only happened to Porcello 3 times. About a week ago, I looked up the run support for each, and it was 199 for Porcello, 119 for Verlander. The gap closed with those 12 runs the Tigers scored Tuesday, but still....

DOUG - DID YOU HEAR THE TERRIBLE NEWS?????

Jimbo Khaki pants collapsed and was rushed to the hospital. He just found out that he is facing the real University of Wisconsin Badgers. He was under the impression that the University of Michigan had scheduled another Cream Puff opponent this Saturday and that he was to face the "Wisconsin School of Pastry Design" (North Campus). No one told him he was facing a Big Ten team ranked #8. Medics are reporting that Harbaugh fainted after a screaming fit and an episode of explosive diarrhea....out of which orifice was not mentioned.

Wolverines by 21. At least. I'am sure after the game Wisconsin won't be as good as you say they are now.
Years and years of beat downs by the wolverines have taught Wisconsin there place in the big 10

How did the Tigers wind up with Atlanta to close the season? They won the MLB lottery.

This is the BIg Game doug.....at least until they get to the Goliaths of OSU. It says Badgers are being given anywhere from 8 to 11 points. I think UM can cover that....considering they are at home. This would be a real tight one to call if it was being played in Madison. (Of course the UM Athletic Dept paid big $ to get the candy-azz schedule they have this year).

Someone has been talking about Detroit Tiger HEART all this season. Well, they better show it now. They are pretty much in a "must win" situation all this weekend....and maybe early next week as well. We will finally see if doug was just blowing smoke...or do the Tigers really have HEART???? They will need their leaders Miggy, VMart, and Verlander to step up. Oh - and that guy that will opt out of his contract after 2017 (100% guaranteed said Mr. Vice), needs to help too.

Miggy. Homers. Again
He just passed demaggio on RBI list.
He is on a torrid pace last 60 games.
Ain't no quit on this team. EVEN with a sore knee and nagging sore ankle miggy shows up.
HOF..1st ballot
