You don't seem to understand that baseball is a game played by people - that actually has NO need for statistics. Please tell me that you understand that.
:)

Yeah, there's no need for statistics if you're talking about some kids playing sandlot.

Earlier today I referenced that MLB teams spent a combined $3.7B on player salaries in 2015; when you're talking about that amount of scratch, you better believe there's a fuckload of people who have a very acute need for statistics.

your assessment of Sal not being a catcher by 30 yr old is based on what?

Mike Napoli even made it to 30.

Great defensive catchers ALWAYS make it past 30, give any examples of anyone not, ANY EXAMPLE.

I have no idea why I am even asking since your just saying it to stir the pot and once again have no info to base your decision on other than - Royals hater, lol.

Verlander, Miggy and Vmart's contracts are definitely worse, so I guess you have seen what bad contracts are.
Show me the last 6'3'' catcher to catch from the age of 21-30 in the bigs... that has had prior concussion issues?

What part of the fact he is 6'3'' 240 lb's croutching down tearing his knees up and a concussion waiting to happen don't you get.

I am not alone in thinking Perez is not going to make it to 30. Mike Napoli wasn't a full time catcher at the age of 30 nor most seasons prior to that. Joe Mauer wasn't a full time catcher at the age of 30... and Joe Mauer is 25 times better with a bat than Perez is as is Napoli.

Kids don't play baseball as much as they use too....but I think I will go catch one of the high school games. (Season starts early in AZ). I am going to ask some kids if they figure out their BABIP after each game or if the team figures out their WAR for them? I am sure their iphones should have an app that will do that for them.
You aren't allowed on high school property iffy.

That is not an answer. Do you play baseball? Have you ever played baseball? I am not trying to be an asshole....I am just curious how and why people get interested in baseball stats to such a degree. I read all the stats that were available to be when I was a kid (backs of baseball cards, mostly).....but I don't think they would've meant much to me, if I wasn't playing the game every chance I got.

Just so I understand where you're coming from, when you say "prior concussion issues," are you referring to his 7-day DL stint in 2013 for a mild concussion or is there more?

Tiger's "relief" pitching against the Yankees, looks like a rerun of the 2015 bullpen.

Sal Perez - were there concussion issues prior to 2014? He has played so much the last two years....I don't think he spent any long periods of time on the DL during 2014 and 2015.

oops - did not see slinky post (ed)

LOL. A 6'3" 240lb catcher who has played in the big leagues for 10 years and has concussion issues????!!!!!

MAN, that is getting specific. Reminds me of that Uecker line in the movie Major League, where he informs his listeners that the current batter led the league in walks against right handers, after the 7th inning, in home games at night.

Jason Varitek, listed at 6' 2", 230 lb, caught roughly 1,330 games in his first twelve seasons in the majors.

That would give Perez seven years and 785 games to go.

Plus, Varitek was much older when he did that, which could give the advantage to Perez.

Do you understand what a concussion is? If he had to go on the DL for his concussion it was at least a grade 2... A grade 2 concussion isn't a "mild" concussion. Once you have a concussion your odds of getting more increase exponentially.

Once given a starting gig in 2001, AJ Pierzynski, listed at 6'3", 235 lb, caught roughly 1,714 games in his first 13 seasons in the majors.

That would give Perez eight years and 1,169 games to go.

Pierzynski also got a later start than Perez.

Joe Mauer and Napoli, Vmart, Willingham 6' 2", Myers 6' 3" are/were better with the bat, THATS why they were moved out of catching, lol. Great points..their will continue to be large catchers moved because of their bat is worth more than their catching defense.

AJ Pierzynski - 6'3" - 250 lbs - 39 yrs old, STILL CATCHING started in the bigs at 21, bigger than Sal actually.
Matt Wieters - 6'5" - 230 lbs - 29 yrs old, Catching
Brian McCann - 6'3" - 225 lbs - 32 yr old still catching

Yes, every catcher over 6' is told the toll on the knees will be more, been that way since catchers over 6 foot began

You obviously think what ever you want anyhow, and every year 95% of your thoughts prove to be wrong. Good Luck with just another one of your guesses.

Like I said, I will bet Perez is still a catcher at 30, without hesitation. 1) just because he plays on the Royals makes it almost guaranteed even if they have to wheel him back there.

Why not comment on Pelfrey looking great or the Tigers bullpen in the split squad in the Pirates game looking lock down...

Grades of Concussion - No Such Thing as a Minor Concussion

Yes, I understand what a concussion is.

What I didn't understand and asked about was if you were considering a single 7-day DL stint for a concussion to be "prior concussion issues." You see, that "s" at the end of issue indicates plurality.

He has had his bell rung pretty good since then and passed concussion tests.

LOL.. @da55bums using Matt "on the DL" Wieters as an example of how Perez career is going to go.
