tell me one reason why anyone should give a shit about pythag win loss records?

Either you didn't read the post where I quoted the reason for looking at it, or you didn't understand it. Frankly, I don't care which.

Yep. I wouldn't be surprised to see Cabrera put in a full season, but I think 200 innings from Verlander or 140+ games from Victor are tall orders.
I can see JV going over 200 innings. But I don't see his ERA being pretty if he does.

Brad leaves his ass in there too long. 2014 more so than last year.

i read it.. it in no way shape or form tells me why I should care about pythag records... as its about as meaningless of a stat as you can find.

Yep. They take (usually) the ten best teams, and see who's the hottest in October.

The only sucky thing about baseball now is that the second best team in a league could be in the same division as the best team, and get saddled with the 1-game play-in for the Wild Card, which is a complete coin flip.

I wish they could make it a best of 3 at least.. but I get they lack the time.

I agree. In fact, I think the three best teams in the NL (possibly even the majors) all came out of the NL Central last year. However, I do think these situations are the anomalies - if you looked over the last 25 years or so, I do not think that would happen very much.

Seems this is getting to a discussion about the new playoff format. For the record, I'm a HUGE fan of it. I agree that it's not perfect, but I like that it rewards divisional winners (I have a lot of respect for what happens over the course of 162 games, and I don't think wild card teams should be on equal footing as the div winners), and it provides two "instant game 7's" to kick off the playoffs. High drama.

It's my opinion that had the Mets been in any other division, they'd have been a .500 ball club, or so. Highly overrated based on playing a schedule chock full of the worst teams in the majors.
