Yeah, Simon led the team in innings. He got enough 6+ starts in, for sure, even if he gave up 4 or 5 runs in the process.
Sanchez was the same thing.. he got his innings in for the most part.. just gave up 2 HR and 5 runs doing it most of the time.

If the Tigers are not firmly in first place heading into mid may.. Ausmus will probably get fired and Loyd will be the manager.

There is no way the Tigers still have Ausmus managing if they are not in first place at the trade deadline.

I am really shocked at that stat. Maybe pumped up from Price's first half and Verlander's second half. But I know Sanchez went through a 12 or more game stretch before he hit the DL where he had only 1 QS. And Simon had a similar streak at the end of the year.

I was a little surprised too. I'd agree that Price and Verlander obviously helped. They accounted for about 25% of the team's starts and 30% of the starters' collective innings.

The rest of the starters averaged 5.52 IP/GS. With 25% of the team starts, Price and Verlander equated to 1.25 starters (in a perfect world). It'd be interesting to know what the AL average was for IP/GS for the individual SP slots (starters 1-5) - messy as fuck to sort out, though.

Those two averaged less than seven IP/GS.
Mostly because Verlanders first few starts after coming off the DL. After the first 6 starts.. he didn't have a single start that wasn't at least 6 innings.. and only 2 of the 14 starts after that time were not quality.

From July 24th on Verlander averaged well over 7 innings.

The Red Sox were horrible. The Tigers were a fair amount worse.
i don't take much into the numbers of last year when looking at this year. There is no way you are going to see them be that bad again. To much depth this year and better options. Younger pitchers improve. It was just a perfect storm of shit last year.

Buck Farmer should never start another game in the MLB again. He should be put into the pen. Other than him.. its hard to see Boyd not improving on what he did last year. His minor league numbers are fantastic.

As I said, I do expect them to improve, I'm just not sure how much. I do not expect them to have an above average pitching staff.
