I count 9 wins and 4 losses.
I also see all but two of those 9 wins coming against teams below .500, so maybe not something to brag about while you're criticizing the Mets for hoarding wins vs. losing teams.
I'm criticizing the Mets more for their schedule against over .500 teams which is proof that their record comes from beating up the 3 teams fighting for the #1 pick in their division who they get to play 19 times. Would you rather play the O's, Rays, & Sox 57 times or Marlins, Phils, & Braves?
Both WS teams were wildcards last year. Crazy.Three divisions -- ALE, ALW, and NLC -- still look to be very much contestable. As the Royals showed last year, however, winning the division is not necessary, let alone sufficient, for postseason success.
As soon as someone says "vs 500 teams" I lose interest in their point. The fallacy of the mets /dodgers
Vs 500 teams
Hilarious.
Yankees fans for years defended their shit division. "Hey, we can only play the teams in front of us..."
I'm not even defending the Mets, I'm pointing out your hypocrisy in ripping one team for beating up on weakerthans then immediately following that up by flaunting your team's record against mediocre teams.I was going by what I saw on the Yankees post game last night. You look really stupid defending the Mets. Everyone know their schedule been shit. Boston and Tampa aren't great teams but they're much better than the Braves, Marlins, Phillies, and etc. I'm criticizing the Mets more for their schedule against over .500 teams which is proof that their record comes from beating up the 3 teams fighting for the #1 pick in their division who they get to play 19 times. Hell, I've even said in here multiple times that the Mets are benefitting greatly by having the easiest schedule post-deadline. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Minus the Jays games (and I don't know why we're excluding them here, but...), the Yankees are 21-18 against +.500 teams. That's fine, like you said, but considering that if you remove the team the Mets played the worst against from the equation as well (Cubs), they're 23-26 against +.500 clubs. The differences between the two aren't exactly vast here in terms of performances against better clubs.I wasn't flaunting anything actually. Yanks have done fine against teams over .500 excluding the Jays. This isn't a team who record is a product of beating bad teams
Indeed. Detroit played in a terrible division for years and benefited from beating up on the wee ones. They still managed to get to 2 WS and 2 ALCS' during their run.Seriously, in-season record versus teams better than or equal to .500 is not a thing. It doesn't correlate to postseason success. It's such a waste of time to worry about that.
Mets are only 7th in run differential, too.Seriously, in-season record versus teams better than or equal to .500 is not a thing. It doesn't correlate to postseason success. It's such a waste of time to worry about that.
regardless of what your division looks like, good teams should win 2/3 against bad teams and 1/2 against good teams.

They are a one trick pony - great pitching. If that slips for some reason then they'll go lose a lot (see: the Cardinals the past 10 games or so)
