Steamer Projections, hitters:
(name, WAR, HR, GP)
Bailey 4.4 11 119
Lee 4.1 14 143
Adames 3.9 125 150
Chappy 3.8 24 150
Ramos 1.7 21 139
Fitz 1.7 19 136
LWJ 1.5 14 105
Yaz 1.0 18 126
I'd be surprised if Lee has double digit home runs but that is just me. Why do they think he will have a 4.1 WAR?

And, wow, 125 home runs for Adames? I'm surprised that only translates to 3.9 WAR.

an idea I've been kicking around: bring me a fellow Hebrew to root for. That is, Bregman. Move him to 1b.
He projects: 4.1 WAR 23 HR 150 GP

Upside: he's 30, so a five year deal wouldn't kill us. He would solidify the lineup as a middle of the order bat. He'd put "butts in the seats." I'd have him over for Pesach.

Downside: He's a QO guy so we'd lose two more picks. We'd probably have to overpay him to get him here; might take a six year deal. Shifting him to DH in two years would lessen his value since he's a good defender. Probably not a 2b.
So you move him to 1st base???

Steamer Projections, pitchers:
(name, GS, IP, ERA, FIP, WAR)
JV 23 130 4.25 4.25 1.3
Webb 32 201 3.46 3.29 3.6
Ray 28 161 3.96 3.95 1.9
Harry 26 145 4.06 4.09 1.3
Hicks 23 137 4.11 4.12 0.9
Bird 18 117 4.05 4.09 0.7

Projections include 5 appearances out of the BP for Hicks and 22 for Bird
Pretty close to my expectations for Ray. My projections were actually slightly better (I said he would have 10-20 more IP)

Seems to be really underestimating Webb, in my opinion.
Yeah, a little low, but that's STEAMER.

His average WAR the last three years is 4.3.

I think he'll be much closer to that.

Well, where else can you play him? He's not supplanting Chappy. He's not a middle infielder. The only spot left is 1b until Bryce is here.
I was responding to your point about the DH spot not a good idea because of his defensive value. Wouldn't 2nd base be better for him than 1st if his glove is that good? Playing 1st base pretty much limits his defensive value as well.

It was a simple typo .... decimal point should move one place to the right ....

Sure, if he can play a good 2b. Not sure he can.

Not sure how he fits then. If he is valued for his glove, then the cost will include that. Moving him to DH, as you mentioned, would negate some of that value. So would 1st base. Sounds like 2nd base as well.

Signing Bregman makes ZERO sense. He is a QO and we already have ARGUABLY the best 3B in the game on our team.

I liked the idea of signing him to play 2nd base earlier in the offseason. That was before the Giants signed Adames and it was an idea of how to fill out the middle infield if the Giants didn't sign anyone by now and if Bregman's cost went down. Now, as you mention, it doesn't make sense to sign him. And I do hate the idea of losing even more draft picks, especially since the Giants' selling of the future isn't even building a serious contender now.

Jung Hoo Lee left for the U.S. Monday night (Korean time), said he's "100%" after season-ending shoulder surgery in June.Thanked the Giants for taking great care of him (they sent a trainer to Korea to work with him)

I think expectations for him are too high but look forward to seeing what he can do in 2025.

Update on Sasaki:

Notably, BA lists the Dodgers as the most likely landing spot for him, to the surprise of no one. We'll find out for sure in the next 2 to 10 days.
