Today is the deadline to settle on salaries for 2025 with their 3 arbitration-eligible players. Below are the estimates:

LaMonte Wade Jr: $4.7M

Giants and Tyler Rogers avoid arbitration, settle at $5.25M for 2025 according to a source.

Brisbee today on Verlander:

April-May: Eight starts, 3.26 ERA, .672 OPS allowed, 8.2 K/9
June-September: Nine starts, 7.89 ERA, .883 OPS allowed, 6.2 K/9

For the first part of his season, he was the same Verlander as he was in 2023. Once his neck started bothering him, he was cooked, especially when he came back in preparation for a postseason charge. This is the Occam’s Razor explanation, and it’s impossible to ignore. Sometimes baseball is complicated. Sometimes it isn’t. Verlander was hurt and he pitched worse because of it.

We’ll know a lot more in a couple of months. But if you’re going to rank possible reasons for a disappointing season, from least concerning to most concerning, you’d have “persistent shoulder soreness” near the top, along with a sudden loss of command or an absolute collapse with his velocity. A strange injury to a body part that pitchers typically don’t worry about would be closer to the bottom. If he were 32, it would be incredibly easy to assume he was going to be just fine. As is, the reasons to be bearish on Verlander could be a lot scarier. He was hurt, and he pitched worse because of it. The Giants are hoping he won’t be hurt next year.

Makes sense from here, even if there are fewer guarantees than usual.

Again, I think 20 decent starts from JV is the over/under. He'll get hurt and we won't get a full season from him. But, if he can be healthy if we make the playoffs it could be fun.

$15M is not a huge risk in this context.

What is the definition of a “decent” start? Depending on that, I have my mortgage broker on speed dial.

Heck, I am considering a HEAVY bet on just 20 starts, regardless of effectiveness. I think the OU starts at 15 starts (no qualifier).

Defense mostly. And to be able to use Fitz as a utility guy. I really am expecting regression from Fitz.
What changed between the end of the season and now for you? I thought you were pretty excited about him around September.
I do expect some regression but not enough that I think he needs to be utility.

This must be determined now for game threads.

I think we all agree the contract is a good and low risk, 1 year, nothing given up, some $ is all, so what.

It's just will he give us WAR or not. Could go either way, like with a lot of our players.

We just like to argue with each other, even when we agree.

Fair question.

How about 20 starts, 100 innings, 3.75 ERA, 110 ERA+, 1.8 WAR?

Might be a tad optimistic but
