Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 45 | Run: 30 | Arm: 55 | Field: 40 | Overall: 45
A but under the radar as a high schooler in Puerto Rico, Ceballos first extended his amateur career at San Jacinto Junior College, where he raked for two years and got taken on Day 3 of the 2022 Draft by the Angels. He decided to head west to Oregon and climbed to the third round when the Braves took him on the heels of his .333/.426/.643 line with 18 homers for the Ducks. He continued to hit well, albeit without that kind of power (.300/.440/.375) during his 14-game pro debut.
Since his San Jac days, Ceballos has shown a knack for making contact. In 2023, he improved his approach considerably, drawing a lot more walks, which helped him get to his power more, mostly to his pull side, and he absolutely punishes fastballs. The plate discipline carried over during his pro debut as well, and he should be able to drive the ball to all fields.
Ceballos has a strong arm and decent hands, both of which give him a shot to stay at third, which is where he played during his debut. His lack of range, however, have some evaluators thinking he might need to move to first, and there’s always the intriguing possibility of trying him behind the plate, where he played some during his Draft League stint in 2022.

Great. Slow. No power. Not athletic. Good arm, little range. Need more like this. :heh:
Sounds like the same type of player the Giants targeted in this year’s draft

He was the #26 prospect for the Braves.

This was a salary dump, pure and simple.

Folks, this is YOUR Oakland Giants.

Now bring me Holliday for Snell and Mozzicato for Chappy and a sack of baseballs for Forto.
For your sake, I HOPE you are joking about expecting anyone even in the neighborhood of Holliday in a Snell trade.

If all they do is a salary dump, that is a big middle finger to both the casual fans AND the lunatic fringe.

calm down.they,ll get farther than sf i know.
Didn't say they won't. They obviously have a better team. Just don't understand why getting another full time DH was a good move. Ozuna looks really good in that role. Neither he nor Soler are even close to average with a glove. Soler may continue to improve with the bat this year but how much of that will be neutralized by brutal outfield play?

He is part of our cost, not part of our get.

Cant really say I like this trade. Cabal Los looks like a lotto ticket, no more. And Soler has actually been hitting quite well recently. I guess this opens the DH spot for Lucky?
Yeah, it's largely a salary dump...it wasn't going to work out for Soler here. I'm not sure what his home/road splits are but they can't be good. Matzek, as was said, was a bad contract we had to take to get the deal done. He won't pitch in 24 (he might even be done altogether) and we will decline his option for 25. Truly a #forevergiant. Ceballos (yes, Cedrick's son) is a lottery ticket, which is more than I would have thought we'd get for Soler.

If you had told me the only move we made at the deadline was getting off one contract, I would have bet big money it was Snell. In my mind, we were stuck with Soler for another couple years.

Kudos to FZ for making this deal, even though he's a weak ass bitch for not trading Snell, Chapman and Conforto.

I think that FZ is insisting on a really nice package for Snell, so I don't think my ask is outrageous.

FZ signed him in the first place. I have a hard time patting a guy on the back for kinda cleaning up his own mess.

The 40 is currently at 37 and the 26 is currently at 24.

I hope FZ has extra undies in his desk at the office, because that kind of flexibility has to be “exciting” for him.
