That would allow Posey to move to 3rd base.

Cole Hamels threw for teams today in Arlington, Texas, and was said to look “insanely good.” Predicts he will receive interest off this session. 88-91 mph.

This is exactly the type of ST move Farhan makes.

The Giants typically add an insurance arm who either missed the previous season or a huge part of it, so adding Cole Hamels on a MiLB deal/Low AAV MLB deal would fit.

A sneak peek at the ZiPS x FanGraphs Depth Chart for the San Francisco Giants.View attachment 319820

None of these numbers look off, but it highlights that the Giants will probably have a quietly decent team. That said, there are some imperfect fits on the roster.
84 wins

I've recently given a list of catchers and relief pitchers on the market. Some talk about the team lacking in middle infield depth makes me wonder, who is still available to sign? Well, here's the list of 20 guys who've played at 2nd and/or shortstop and are still available. This list includes guys who did not sign with anyone in 2022 but have not officially announced their retirement. I've put an asterisk next to them. (Age at Opening Day 2023 in parenthesis):
Elvis Andrus (34)
Asdrubal Cabrera (37)*
Robinson Cano (40)
Yu Chang (27)
Charlie Culberson (34)
Alcides Escobar (36)
Phil Gosselin (34)
Didi Gregorius (33)
Josh Harrison (35)
Brock Holt (35)*
Jose Iglesias (33)
Jed Lowrie (38)
Mike Moustakas (34)
Rougned Odor (29)
Chad Pinder (31)
Andrelton Simmons (33)
Eric Sogard (37)*
Donovan Solano (35)
Jonathan Villar (31)
Luke Williams (26)

I might be willing to give Andrelton Simmons a look ONLY if there was a reason for his dropoff offensively, and there was a reasonable chance he would bounce back. Even at that, he would still be a viable late-inning defensive replacement, and spell Craw for a game or two here and there. He has an eye-popping career 28.5 dWAR.

I happened to look at his stats and he was with 4 different MLB clubs last year. If that isn't a record, it's gotta be close.

EDIT: OK, I had to look it up. The record is 4, held by 13 different players, but you actually had to have played.

It's five if you were on the roster but didn't necessarily play:

Okay, let's assume the Giants sign him. Who gets bumped from the opening day roster, with the expectation that only Luke Jackson is on the IL to start the season?

Anyone else a bit surprised that, with only 18 days to the start of spring training, the Giants haven't officially announced who have spring training invites? I assume Wynns is one of them, and we'll see a few "prospects" and minor league free agent signees but it seems that list is usually out by now. It would be a strange year not to have many (and, yes, I know it is not unusual for guys to come up from minor league camp during spring, but those are usually for one or two games), when the WBC is set to play in March.

Likely Wade, IMO

I'm okay with that but I doubt the Giants will do that. They seem to think he'll bounce back in 2023. Maybe he will. I think, if the Giants pick up another middle infielder, that Villar will be optioned to Sacramento (unless he has a monster spring and Wade looks horrible).
I still don't get the roster construction the Giants did. Sign Flores to an extension, decide he doesn't really belong in the middle infield, keep the corners stacked with Davis, Flores, Villar and Wade. Then bemoan the lack of depth in the middle. Never mind that they focused a lot of their minor moves on the middle (purchasing Diaz' contract, trading for Wisely, focusing on keeping Welker and Walton on minor league deals, etc).

Theres your backup catcher. Who gets bumped?
At least it's somewhat comforting to know the FO hasn't lost their frigging minds.

While it is implied that he will sign a major league contract, it isn’t explicitly stated. It is possible he signed a minor league pact.

The wording on the article seems confusing. One paragraph suggests that he'll be competing with Wynns and Sabol, suggesting a minor league deal. Later, it suggests that they are merely depth in case he gets hurt, suggesting a big league deal.
