8x$8.5M is the contract

lol. will not age well.
Montreal dodged a bullet
Jarmo just rushed to hospital with ruptured spleen from laughing.

Tad harsh, but PLD has way too much talent to have achieved as little as he has. Coulda been a big time power forward but as mentioned he sometimes just doesn't show up. Feels like he cared a tad more here than in Winnipeg but that's a big bag for a guy who will likely demand a trade by year 3.

Not really seeing the big mistake here for LA - PLD's played in two absolutely miserable places with a toxic coach (CLB) and a toxic everything (WPG). If they do get him to show up every game he gives them one of the deepest centre combos in the West with Kopi and Danault. He's also only 25. 25 year old top 6 centremen don't show up in the market everyday.

Vilardi's alright (although equally inconsistent) and might start putting up heavier numbers but they're literally giving away scoring wingers right now in this league, they can probably go out and get Boeser at half retained for nothing tomorrow and he's guaranteed to give you 50 goals. He's also due a raise and if he gets $3-4 mil AAV, combined with Iafallo's $4 mil, that's not much less than they just committed to PLD in a premium position where fuckin Bo Horvat went on a first half heater and got the exact same deal lol.

They also have an absolute mountain of cap space after 2023-24. PLD would have to absolutely fall off a cliff for this to be terrible.

He has been complaining since the moment he stepped into the NHL. Has topped out at the 60-65 point level in his 5 seasons.
Has definitely shown the ability to dominate shifts, but never put a stretch together that would give you a hope that he's got it figured out.

he might be ok sheltered behind Kopitar (and with a new-team bump) this year, but Kopitar will be 36 years old by training camp. How long is he sticking around?
bottom line is, if you are paying 8x8.5 to someone, that's a core that you are building around. I would be scared shitless to hang my hat on PLD long term

I would flip it and say if he stays the same player then this contract is terrible - he would need to make a significant (and sustained) step up for it not to be.

i like that for Calgary.

have a sense Toffoli's productive years are waning.
was never fleet of foot, gonna get tougher to get into the right spots.

At that other site I frequent, they think the return for Calgary is underwhelming. Maybe @Nasty_Magician or @DevilishWon can chime in on their thoughts regarding Yegor.

Yegor is the cookie cutter stereotypical Russian style player. Great skater, unbelievable release but absolutely no defensive responsibility and he has a habit of coasting a lot. Maybe a change of scenery helps him out. There's times he looks unbelievable and then a lot more times where he's invisible.

Reading that Sharangovich has a heck of a shot and is a pretty good skater. That seems...good?

Guess it depends how much you believe he's truly just Le Sulk and how much you believe he's been a victim of where he's played and under which coaches. LA must think it's the latter. We'll see.

Thanks Nasty - Enjoy Toffoli, that guy just seems to be able to put the biscuit in the basket, he might not be the fastest skater, but he seems to be able to arrive on time most of the time. Kills penalties as well.
