That’s trash for Durant.

Why would they want to be a tax team for that roster?
Also this would be:
Sixers:
Harden
Durant
Paul Milsap
Nets:
Simmons
Harris
Maxey
Thybulle
Drummond
Seth Curry
2023 1st round pick
Whatever other picks the Sixers actually have available for trade (may be like 4 2nds and a 2031 first haha)

That would be grand larceny and Adam Silver would be up Marks and Morey’s ass for collusion haha!

You keep saying this.

But there is no reason why Dallas couldn’t sign a good free agent.

Good market, aggressive and quality owner, good weather.

Dallas hasn’t signed a top tier free agent, but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t if they had the cap space at the right time.
Name the last premier free agent they signed.

I will wait.

Durant will be 35 next season. Hasn't played more than 55 games in 5 years.

I would imagine that the Nets would prefer a bounty of draft picks rather than players though.
Yep, since they don't have many.

Rebuild through the draft and make shrewd FA signings.

Devil’s advocate…

And, I really hate being reasonable when it comes to the Lakers.

Is there a chance the Lakers didn’t actually WANT to make the Kyrie deal?

Hera me out…..

They clearly we’re willing to at the right price.

Westbrook and 1 pick is a massive under pay.

Could they have said….he isn’t the preference. But, if they are giving him away, fuck it?

Look, Rob has already done this 3 Star team dance to catastrophic results.

Maybe he wants to actually have a balanced team, by doing the Utah trade, to avoid another Westbrook over Buddy debacle.

Now, if they do nothing now and nothing of substance this Summer?

Fuck, just trade Lebron.

I'm not giving the FO any benefit of the doubt because every time there's a rumored trade involving anyone at some point it comes out the Lakers are lowballing. Which is a little funny considering how bad an overpay it was for Westbrook. They basically learned the wrong lesson from that deal.

Yep what I was saying before, you can’t contend anyway. Why not take the chance on Kyrie. I get Dallas had the better offer in the end though but it did seem LA wasn’t really interested from the start. Unlikely a player to his caliber becomes available which means they need to get everything they can this deadline and then in the offseason actually make good moves. Both of those seem like a longshot. You are failing right now, plain and simple. Rob and Jeanie have no idea what they are doing. They lucked into the AD deal and that’s the only thing they can smile about since LBJ has been in LA

You clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

The Nets were not going to take Westbrook back, which means a 3rd team was going have to be involved.

Getting Kyrie was going to cost 1 first rounder. Getting another team to take on Westbrook was going to cost another first round pick.

The Lakers would also have had to give up a couple of players too. According to reports, it would have been Reaves and Christie, each of whom have shown they can at least be solid rotational players.

They were willing to do that if Kyrie would have signed the 2 year extension that is available. He wasn't willing to sign it.

The Lakers, rightfully so, were not willing to give all of that up for a potential 3 month rental.

The Mavs gave up 2 good rotational players a 1st and some 2nds.

So no, the Lakers couldn't have done "the exact same thing".

The exact same thing as in let him play and see how it works out, not as far as assets

They were worried he would leave?

At this point they have traded away so many picks over the years what is the difference? Plus if Lebron is pissed and leaves, it is even worse.

….and the Chip.

Lebron has not had a great tenure in LA.

He has missed the playoffs multiple times.

But, the Chip erases that.

I don’t agree with your position on a few points in your posts on the last few pages.

But, gotta concede on this…

Nets could have called his bluff.

But, would it have been worth it to deal with his shit again next year too?

Probably not.

Yet, you were correct, they could have.

While I generall agree with you, what do the Nets do now? Does anyone seriously think that this Nets team is a contender? They don't have much flexibility in the summer so short of moving KD, this is the team they have for the foreseeable future.

An all-time great forward. A couple of nice players. And a defensive specialist who is terrified of shooting getting paid 40 million a year.

Moving on from Simmons and Kyrie and getting expirings back would have given them flexibility this summer.

I actually think they can still be a contender. Not a clear cut one, but one that could still make the Finals under the right circumstances. It depends on the health of Durant. He was playing at an all world top 5 player level before he got hurt. If he can get back to that, you've got a puncher's chance because he is surrounded by a very nice compliment of role players. No clear cut #2s (unless Simmons ever returns to form but I'm not holding my breath) but a bunch solid starter level players. And you can't discount the fact that all of Kyrie's teams got better once he left. There's still a path here.

Exactly, so he would have came back on day 30, then probably done it again.

Do Vince, Peja or Monta count?
Carter averaged 10ppg his first season there.

Peja averaged 8.6ppg.

Ellis averaged 19ppg his first season but he wasn't an elite player. Just a scorer and not much else.

They kind of lucked into LeBron as well. LeBron’s life goals in media production and film were bringing him to LA anyway.
