Wall has regressed to a league average player at best.

His passing is the only thing he is above average at.

He was never a "good" shooter but his athleticism was next level. Legs are old now and he isn't the crafty vet that extends a career.

The trouble is he is a league average player with a star’s ego.

That is a tough combo.

Others have figured it out, he can too, but I do worry that he has a young man’s skill set and old man athleticism.

You clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

The Nets were not going to take Westbrook back, which means a 3rd team was going have to be involved.

Getting Kyrie was going to cost 1 first rounder. Getting another team to take on Westbrook was going to cost another first round pick.

The Lakers would also have had to give up a couple of players too. According to reports, it would have been Reaves and Christie, each of whom have shown they can at least be solid rotational players.

They were willing to do that if Kyrie would have signed the 2 year extension that is available. He wasn't willing to sign it.

The Lakers, rightfully so, were not willing to give all of that up for a potential 3 month rental.

The Mavs gave up 2 good rotational players a 1st and some 2nds.

So no, the Lakers couldn't have done "the exact same thing".
Yep.

When you have a superstar on your roster, salary dump trades should not be a thing.

While I generall agree with you, what do the Nets do now? Does anyone seriously think that this Nets team is a contender? They don't have much flexibility in the summer so short of moving KD, this is the team they have for the foreseeable future.

An all-time great forward. A couple of nice players. And a defensive specialist who is terrified of shooting getting paid 40 million a year.

Moving on from Simmons and Kyrie and getting expirings back would have given them flexibility this summer.

They better sign him back or this look bad

Yes and no.

They have to intend to sign him.

But also, they have to do a swing for the fences deal like this or the Luka era in Dallas will end without ever really giving him a chance to contend.

Nets get:
Maxey
Tobias Harris
Thybulle
Whatever 1st and 2nd round picks Sixers actually have to get it done
Sixers get:
Kevin Durant

Salaries and shit work out

I bet this can be beaten but Harris may be the player that helps get Simmons back on his path. Maxey and Cam Thomas are two nice pieces for a team in NYC to build around while they clear cap to recruit a big time FA.

The only chance the Sixers have is if Durant can lean on Marks and the Nets about wanting to dictate his landing spot. This is a pipe dream but you pick up the fucking phone because Embiid Durant Harden makes you the favorite for a championship.

Oh, they are done.

They are an also ran in the East. Might as well trade KD also.

To Begley's tweet; not surprising. They pussy footed around in the summer and they pussy footed again. But they still have some options out there with Utah and Toronto. If Westbrook and a pick was on the table for Kyrie, then it damn sure better be on the table for some role player packages. If they let Thursday pass with no significant moves, the entire front office needs to be fired and Jeanie's ass just needs to sell the team to someone that actually understands basketball.
Devil’s advocate…

And, I really hate being reasonable when it comes to the Lakers.

Is there a chance the Lakers didn’t actually WANT to make the Kyrie deal?

Hera me out…..

They clearly we’re willing to at the right price.

Westbrook and 1 pick is a massive under pay.

Could they have said….he isn’t the preference. But, if they are giving him away, fuck it?

Look, Rob has already done this 3 Star team dance to catastrophic results.

Maybe he wants to actually have a balanced team, by doing the Utah trade, to avoid another Westbrook over Buddy debacle.

Now, if they do nothing now and nothing of substance this Summer?

Fuck, just trade Lebron.

That’s trash for Durant.

Why would they want to be a tax team for that roster?

Great backcourt.

The way of the new NBA.....said this earlier today. Try and keep Luka happy since they cant sign good FAs.

You keep saying this.

But there is no reason why Dallas couldn’t sign a good free agent.

Good market, aggressive and quality owner, good weather.

Dallas hasn’t signed a top tier free agent, but that doesn’t mean they couldn’t if they had the cap space at the right time.

Looking at them now post Kyrie trade are they even a contender now? It makes most sense for them to deal KD now.
No.

They are going to get low ball offers.

Just wait until the Summer.

He’s hurt.

Let him sit if he’s mad.

Still has like 3 years left on his deal.

That’s trash for Durant.

Why would they want to be a tax team for that roster?

Durant will be 35 next season. Hasn't played more than 55 games in 5 years.

I would imagine that the Nets would prefer a bounty of draft picks rather than players though.
