Sure. He’s just not a very good one. He’s at best the 5th or 6th option on a real contender. He's a defensive player. Standard 3 and D.

The Nets are slowly turning handfuls of emeralds into handfuls of dust with their increasingly bad trades, and Kyrie holding them at gunpoint is not going to help matters. Franchise in total meltdown IMO.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Simmons plays out this contract and then leaves the game.I understand that but he still has enough upside to warrant not being a salary dump.
There's no way they trade Simmons and Kyrie to LA.
Maybe for both 1sts but sending Kyrie there with Ben would guarantee those picks likely being shitty

He’s expendable in a deal to get Kyrie.I have no idea what his trade value is. I suspect he's more valuable to Dallas than he is as a trade chip.
I don’t worry about that as much with Lebron and he is signed long-term like he wants. The Lakers are one of the few teams where they can make it work. Of course there will always be questions with his history but the are wasting Lebron’s last yearsHow can you say that with the history?
Definitely.DFS is a lesser RoCo for me.
The Lakers NEED to make a big move.Definitely.
I could live with RoCo, Kennard, Reggie/Wall and pick for a Kyrie type player.
But, Wall and Simmons is as bad as Simmons and Westbrook.
Reggie, Curry, Patty are redundant.
Luke is a great shooter.
But, he’s fucking Steve Kerr, minus the accolades.
You can’t build a trade for a star player around budget Steve Kerr and I don’t want to give them Powell.
Id rather have Conley.
They do.The Lakers NEED to make a big move.
The Clippers don’t. They can minor moves here and there. The Clippers shouldn’t have to risk or commit to anything bc they are contenders as of right now imo. The Lakers aren’t…they need to take more risk.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he pulled a Larry Sanders.I wouldn’t be surprised if Simmons plays out this contract and then leaves the game.
Pretty solid comparison. Bonus points for both being LSU.I wouldn’t be surprised if he pulled a Larry Sanders.
Ben Simmons is Jamarcus Russell.
Has the physical tools to get drafted at the top.
But, no desire to actually be great and no mental fortitude to endure the lows.
They just want the lifestyle.
Rozier is a much smarter trade. The Lakers NEED to make a big move.

He is that type of guy though.
May spend the next 4-5 years in China if he doesn't get what he wants. And yes I know he won't make as much in China.
Yeah, @fightinfunbags nailed him as RoCo 2.0He's a defensive player. Standard 3 and D.
I absolutely agree but even with all this is a golden opportunity for LA. You can turn Russ and picks into the best 3rd option in the NBA. Rob can make up for the Russ move and more with one trade. The Lakers have limited assets and this is away to maximize those. They now have less cap this offseason with the Rui trade, it’s unlikely they can sign another somewhat big name. I understand there is risk, a ton of risk, but there was risk with the Russ move. They shit the bed. If Rob doesn’t make a move he is going to be in the same place he is now…not contending. They do.
But, a calculated risk.
My Guy, it’s Kyrie Irving.
He is blowing up a contender because he wants a ironclad contract that does not hold him accountable for the duration.
He is saying NO STIPULATIONS.
ZERO.
Fuck that.
He might be the best talent available.
But, he isn’t the ONLY ONE.
Lakers fucked themselves by not doing the Indy deal.
Utah, Charlotte are still in play.
Lesser, sure.
But, Conley, Vanderbilt, Beasley addresses all their needs without bringing in a malcontent.
#baddecisionsOof.
Exactly.
This guy is a moron for blowing up the Nets without a backup, plan in place.
Even if they make the Kyrie move I would put them at 50/50 being a real contender because of the high risk in AD or LeBron getting injured by the time April and May roll around.I absolutely agree but even with all this is a golden opportunity for LA.
