Yeah, they have a lot going for them.

But what happens to franchise value the day Steph Curry retires?

Lakers will always be near the top because of the brand and the market.
It's not about Curry. The team owns a brand new state of the art arena in downtown SF that hosts big name shows almost every night of the year when the Ws aren't in town. They are minting money from non-basketball activities on top of the mint from basketball.

The details below show how confused positions have become.
One center has been player of the month this year. He leads the league in scoring. 14% of NBA media thinks he’s the best center in the league. Embiid needs to VORP and RAPTOR better.

Sure, but that doesn't mean that as Lebron retires, another FA joins AD for his stretch run. Everyone seems to be acting like it's a lock that the cupboard is bare in 2027. The only reason the cupboard was bare when Kobe retired was the commish meddling in the the CP3 trade and Dwight's flake out.

No, there were multiple other reasons. Poor decision making is one.

Still a tremendous advantage being the Lakers, but not enough to consistently overcome poor management.

The Lakers have been horrendously managed since the Buss kids took over.

Absolutely

Virtually Every team shaves tax dollars, even contenders

The lakers didn’t keep him more because of the terrible Russ trade than anything else

If they make the trade for hield instead, Caruso likely stays

Do we even know if that Pacers trade is available with the Pacers in the playoff picture? Detroit has a lot of takes for Bog; they would need an overpay to move him without competition. Sure, the Lakers front office is not good, but we're acting like the only reason trades haven't been made is their penny-pinching. To me, I just think their focus is wrong, wanting the HUGE move for a 3rd star (unlikely to materialize, and not ideal if it did) instead of incremental moves.

Agreed.

It is unlikely to materialize AND also probably not what helps the team most.

That is what got you in this mess to begin with. Picking a big name over fit.

Lakers don’t need another name. They need high quality role players who can contribute on both ends.

Turner is a great fit for them

Hield makes sense to basically play the monk role we know worked last year

They can probably even put some seconds in there to get McConnell too sinxe they have nembhard and hali anywy.

That is the type of deal that transforms that roster in a hurry

I get all that…

But you can’t tell me with a straight face that the Warriors are worth as much as the Lakers without Curry and the rest of the current core.

5 years after they are gone, Warriors are still top 10, maybe top 5.

But not top 3.

I don’t know who owns what real estate, that’s becoming a huge factor in these deals as well

I disagree. Look at the list, it's not about who has the best players or teams.

It's the PRIMARY factor, real estate and TV deals. Heck the Chase Center alone is probably half the franchise value.
