I mean I get your point

But the bucks have done this

The warriors have done it

The heat did it when Lebron was on the roster

It’s a pretty standard practice

Stop it.

The Warriors are spending a lot more than the Lakers and just resigned Poole to a long term big money extension. Nobody accusing them of being cheap.

The Heat making that decision was part of why LeBron left.

The Bucks are in Milwaukee and don’t have near the earning power the Lakers do.

The Lakers are the most valuable franchise in the e NBA. They are a money machine. There is no excuse for them to avoid spending when they should be within a championship window, but aren’t because of their terrible decisions.

Knicks gave it a good effort against the Bucks, but w/o RJ Barrett the task was too tall to carry out.
Milwaukee 111 - NY 107.

Makes no difference team is better with out barret..

They were 20% from the 3 pt line

Had a 17 pt lead late in 3rd

One foolish mistake after another cost them this game

Can’t win them all , but this was a very winnable game

Ahhhhhhhh. Like it matters!

The Lakers have the 6th highest salary cap currently

Here’s the problem: How?

They need Westbrook’s salary, which would be off the books.

They would have to trade Lebron or Davis.
very good post ---- its the chess vs. checkers perspective.

if you are going to operate under the cap- then RW has to go- but you lose a lot of salary possibilities.

They have to figure out- will it be better to tear the team down to AD, and LeBron--- and some of the min. guys and have 35 mill in cap room?

or to use RW's expiring contract to bring guys in, and operate over the cap.

If there is a competent GM and ownership that will spend a lot of money- then the flexibility of operating over the cap is the way to go. Eventually the guys you trade for become expiring and quasi-assets and you move them- its a multi-step, multi-year way of operating.

if they go below the cap- the only way to get above it again is to use Bird Rights to sign guys that are worth it---- and that is hard to do when you have limited picks and do not do a great job of developing young guys that will have value to sign to Bird Rights deals that take you above the cap.

it will be interesting to see what the Cavs do- because with guys like LeVert, Love, Cedi, Okoro, etc....if they clear the decks besides their Big 4- they can have some cap room---- or do you re-sign everyone- operate above the cap- and then make trades with guys like LeVert, Love, Cedi, Okoro, Rubio, etc...

The Lakers are in some deep shit no matter what because-

1. They do not have their first rounder- it goes to the Pelicans- which in the modified lottery could be disastrous.

2. There 2 super-highly paid players are LeBron- who just turned 38, and Davis who has yearly injury issues.

3. They do not have any young players who are likely candidates to receive Bird Rights extensions that are really worth it in any meaningful way.

4. A guy like Caruso- who would have been a perfect guy to spend $ on, and use your Bird Rights on- and then either keep or trade him was just let go- which indicates they do not have either the capability or will to spend on a major level.

They are in an incredibly difficult situation. The Cavs giving up picks and swaps to 2029 is one thing when you have Mobley who is 21, Garland who is 22, Allen who is 24 and Mitchell who is 26. If they re-sign long term- chances are many of those picks will not be very good.

With the Lakers- it is much more likely the picks are very good picks in 2027, and 2029- post LeBron and when Davis is older----- unless they just totally clear the books, sign major free agents, and learn how to build out the roster through 2nd rounders and player development.

The Cavs have done a pretty decent job building out the roster with guys like Cedi, Wade, rehabbing Rubio's career, etc....which give them guys who are less expensive, and guys that have some salary cap ballast and have some value in case they need to make deals.

The Lakers really do not have anyone beside RW who has any kind of salary cap ballast- and really have no one anyone else wants besides the guys they cannot trade---- imagine if they had Caruso right now to include in a trade- it would give them a lot more flexibility and salary cap ballast to bring someone back.

They can still give them a moderate bump in salary.

But yeah those 3 have a 12m cap hold as well. So that 32m in cap space is 20 just off them
exactly- so if you just let Reeves, Bryant and RW go- then okay- about 32-35M in cap space.

or you trade RW, use Bird rights on Reeves, Bryant and operate above the cap.

say you trade RW and the picks for Turner and Hield----- and re-sign Reeves nad Bryant with Bird Rights---- the question is- will they pay that? can they then eventually flip some of those guys going forward? And the biggest question---- what is their ceiling if they spend all that money and make these deals? Is it even good enough?

In all honesty?

That list is BS.

Lakers go up for sale today?

Going to be $10 billion. Maybe more.

Is it possible the Warriors or Knicks fetch more?

Maybe. But I highly doubt it.

Yep

The Warriors value is being driven by their ownership activities and recent success.

The Lakers would be worth more if they were being ran by the Warriors ownership team.

Yeah, they have a lot going for them.

But what happens to franchise value the day Steph Curry retires?

Lakers will always be near the top because of the brand and the market.

By 2029 both might be retired

Sure, but that doesn't mean that as Lebron retires, another FA joins AD for his stretch run. Everyone seems to be acting like it's a lock that the cupboard is bare in 2027. The only reason the cupboard was bare when Kobe retired was the commish meddling in the the CP3 trade and Dwight's flake out.

The Lakers passed on signing Alex Caruso when they thought they were title contenders to save money.

Then they traded for Russ and have continuously passed on rumored opportunities to move him.

There is no excuse for a team with LeBron and AD to not be good.

They aren’t good because the Buss family is looking to save money and also seemingly super stingy in trades involving future draft picks.

Do we even know if that Pacers trade is available with the Pacers in the playoff picture? Detroit has a lot of takes for Bog; they would need an overpay to move him without competition. Sure, the Lakers front office is not good, but we're acting like the only reason trades haven't been made is their penny-pinching. To me, I just think their focus is wrong, wanting the HUGE move for a 3rd star (unlikely to materialize, and not ideal if it did) instead of incremental moves.

Getting beal now is fine.

It means you won’t be decimated with zero bench because you can operate as an over the cap team and still run a solid 7-8 man rotation with a few ring chasers to be your 8-10 guys

If the hawks really wanted to move Collins, the suns have enough expiring deals to make it worth while

Saric
Crowder
Craig

Gets you there salary wise

The only question is what the sweeteners are

Yeah that one doesn't go into much detail, or purpose.... I found it late last night on the fly.

That said...this one I just came across seems much better.
It includes interactive features...and is more business oriented...
