It’s kind of like when the Celtics traded Garnett and Pierce. They did nothing. I see the same thing with Brady and Gronk.

The franchise tag was something the players agreed to just to get something resembling real free agency in the first place. The owners love the tag. The players do not. But it’s still there largely due to inertia and the NFLPA’s inability to elect competent leadership for itself.
I disagree. The most privileged of players don't like it, but it works for the group (as part of their entire package including percentage of revenue). Without it there would probably be less salary cap money to be spread around for everyone else.

Everyone forgets about the revenue sharing and the salary cap and processes like tagging are tool to manage how the money is spread around.... And yes I might be oversimplifying it.

Well the percentage of revenues that goes to the players is another failing of their representation, but that’s a story for another time. The intent of the tag was supposed to be for the “most privileged of players” in the first place. That’s where the damn name came from.

The reasons players don't like it is because of the potential for injury. If they get a season ending or worse, a career ending injury they can expect to lose a LOT of money.

That guaranteed tag money is sweet for that year. Players like that. But most don't want to gamble on having another really good year while staying healthy. I say buy insurance then.

Play hard and try your best to stay healthy. You'll get paid.

So the Pats traded Gronk and a 7th to the Bucs for a 4th this makes a lot of sense to me.

1. The Pats have written this season off so getting another draft selection makes sense.

2. Gronk was doing nothing to help the franchise sitting on the sideline.

3. At most he and Tom play two years in a different conference.

4. Frees up cap space, well I think it does?

Technically could reduce their cap space a little bit. Gronk was not counting against the cap being on the reserve-retired list and they traded his rights before he was reinstated so his departure makes no difference cap-wise. A 4th rounder gets paid a little more than a 7th rounder so depending where they actually finally end up picking it could increase their rookie pool requirement a bit.

As others mentioned there is no effect on the cap.

What tells you the Pats have written this season off?

I don't think that they've written it off, I do think expectations are lower.
Mehh semantics IMO....

It's not to say they won't try but they know they don't have the tools.

I agree. Naturally expectations are lower with all the losses. But we haven't even had the draft nor have we seen whether BB is the mad genius or not?

I'm feverishly anticipating the start to the season unlike years past.

We all did, she's got a helluva stamina... The funny part was when she kept kicking CUC out of the line.

She did want me to tell you all “howdy”. And she’s ready for round 2. Especially with nefan. He ate her better than anyone!

He mentioned something about being the “caboose” and “clean up duty”. Not sure what he meant by that though.

If its what I'm thinking..... I'm gonna throw up even more than I did earlier
