Koo was actually a FA. Pats released him off the PS two weeks ago.

Bryant would seem to be the logical move, except he’s been pretty bad this year and has been a dome/warm weather kicker basically his whole career.

If the Eagles want Josh Gordon, they’ll have to get lucky

The New England Patriots released Josh Gordon from their injured reserve list on Thursday. This development was expected in that it was said the Pats would release Gordon once he got healthy.

It was also previously reported that Gordon hopes to land with a new team. So, could the Philadelphia Eagles be the veteran wide receiver’s next landing spot?

It’s possible. The Eagles certainly have a need at Gordon’s position considering the abysmal production they’ve gotten from that spot.

Former Pro Bowl wide receiver Josh Gordon has hit the waiver wire.

The New England Patriots waived Gordon off injured reserve on Thursday, according to multiple reports. He will be eligible to be claimed on Friday afternoon.

Gordon, a first-team All-Pro in 2013, was placed on injured reserve last week. According to MMQB’s Albert Breer, Gordon passed his exit physical with the Patriots on Thursday, which means he is healthy enough to latch on with another team.

Gordon has dealt with off-the-field issues throughout his career and missed two full seasons (2015-16) due to suspensions.

However, when he’s been on the field, Gordon has been a superstar. He has caught 240 passes for 4,113 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns during his career.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound playmaker could help a team looking to improve its passing game. Gordon played 17 games for the Patriots over the past two seasons and produced 60 catches for 1,007 yards and four touchdowns during his tenure.

With Gordon on the waiver wire, here are six teams that could place a claim for the talented receiver:

1. Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins make the most sense as they are the top team on the waiver wire, according to ESPN’s Field Yates.

While Miami is in full-on tank mode, it could use assets for the future. Gordon worked with offensive coordinator Chad O’Shea in New England last year. O’Shea knows Gordon and understands his strengths and flaws as a player and a person.

However, there could be a clear drawback to his appeal: Gordon is a one-year deal. The Dolphins would need to extend him to make the waiver claim logical. The Dolphins aren’t winning anything this season, so adding a good player on a one-year deal makes little sense if they are aiming for a top pick.

2. New York Jets

The Jets could use help for quarterback Sam Darnold. The second-year quarterback has struggled mightily in recent weeks, so adding a big target could help him progress. Since the Jets would inherit Gordon’s one-year deal, the team could rent him for the final half of the season and if he doesn’t work out, they could move on.

The Jets own the fifth priority on the waiver wire. If the Dolphins pass, the Jets would seem like a logical destination.

3. Los Angeles Chargers

Philip Rivers isn’t getting any younger and the Chargers are right on the outskirts of the playoff race. Adding a dynamic threat like Gordon could spark the offense moving forward. Rivers is one of the best downfield passers in the league and he would be able to utilize Gordon’s strengths as a big-play machine. Gordon’s presence would also take some heat off Keenan Allen.

4. Oakland Raiders

Oakland seems to be the most obvious destination if Gordon can make it that far down the pecking order. The Raiders took a shot at a disgruntled Antonio Brown and failed. They have been making moves for wide receivers ever since. Gordon would be the Raiders’ No. 1 wide receiver walking through the door. The Raiders also have the cap space to lock the receiver up to a long-term contract.

5. New York Giants

The Giants could afford to add some firepower to their passing game. Gordon could be a spectacular downfield threat for rookie quarterback Daniel Jones. While it’s unclear if he would make it that far down the waiver wire, the Giants should consider putting in a claim for him.

6. Philadelphia Eagles

This is an absolute long shot. The Eagles are 17th in the waiver wire order and need several wide receiver-needy teams to pass on Gordon. That isn’t likely to happen, especially with the Raiders out in front. The Eagles could use Gordon opposite DeSean Jackson to improve the vertical passing game. Gordon’s involvement at wide receiver could open things up for Alshon Jeffery, Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert.

Gordon still represents a potential future asset to a team like Miami by way of a comp pick if he walks. Even if he only nets a 7th, considering they just paid 4m for a 5th, I’d think paying 1m for a 7 would be worth it to them.

Seattle it is. A little surprised nobody lower in the order took the chance, but that’s a pretty good situation for him. Stable coach and QB, winning team, lower key media. Wish him well in his efforts to keep his life in order.

I heard an interesting comment this morning regarding Gordon and the Seahawks. The commentator said that Pete Carroll will allow Gordon the freedom to try to do whatever he can. With Russell Wilson being a mobile QB, it might allow Gordon to shake himself free when Wilson is scrambling and provide him with a big relief valve.

On the other hand, Gordon was being required to stick to the plan and the designed plays in NE and he was doing it. Thus in 2019 he had 20 receptions for 248 yards and 1 TD. Not exactly what Brady or the Patriots needed.

With last nights loss, Tom Brady became the all time Patriots record holder for losses by a QB(61) breaking a 3 way tie with Bledsoe and Grogan at 60. :D(Regular season only)
