I wonder if Nick Martinez comes back on a minor league contract.

4 spots left so. A minor league contract makes sense. Still need depth. So we need 2 SP one closer and a CF IMO. Yet we may trade a guy like Choo and/or Profar If we land Ohtsni then I really think we lose Choo

Always keep the enemies close. Or at least the competition

Does adding Minor make anyone feel better about allowing Bush to compete for a rotation spot?

Apparently the Rangers are planning on using Minor in the rotation and he is getting a multi-year deal with an annual value of $10 million or a little more.

So scratch that question I asked about the signing of Minor easing concern about Bush leaving the pen.

Wonder which of Ranger fringe contingent are in on the presentation to Ohtani.

How about MY, Colby, current player? Wonder who is good personality fit. Also, with how Rangers assimilated Josh, they were ahead of the curve. He was a disaster in Cali but flourished here.

Should prove interesting. Wonder if part of pitch was pressing for a meeting prior to the questionnaire coming out.
All the details of Rangers pursuit should be fascinating

Terms haven't been disclosed from what I can tell, could be wrong though.

I would guess it's anyone and everyone involved with their current scouting department in Japan, whoever assisted with Yu's transition, and the coaching/training/medical staff. Ohtani probably doesn't give a shit about former players.

The Minor move is registering as solid on Reddit. Several Astros fans are actually pretty miffed, hoping he would have landed there.

I was basing that on what Jamey Newberg wrote last night.

"It was Minor — who Morosi reports will go to camp with Texas as a starter — and not the Royals who declined the mutual option he had for 2018 a month ago, an option that would have paid him $10 million this year. Kansas City was interested in bringing him back, but he was clearly banking on a multi-year deal coming off his standout season and, as Morosi notes, it appears he got it. Terms haven’t been announced, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see it in that $10 million AAV range or a tick higher."

Jamey aslo added, "What’s really interesting about this move, aside from the addition of the player himself — a “pretty popular guy on the market,” according to Jerry Crasnick (ESPN) — is that he signed so quickly. Whether that’s an indication that the Rangers floated an offer that he didn’t feel he could sit on, or that Texas was uniquely committed to returning Minor to the rotation, or that this is simply where he wanted to be, it’s a pickup that I really like, an aggressive add that, combined with last week’s signing of Doug Fister and today’s reupping of Tony Barnette, has the Rangers coming to terms with as many big league free agents so far this winter as all other teams combined."

Mikolas to sign with Cardinals. That's too bad.

10:30am: FanRag’s Jon Heyman tweets that Mikolas will receive a guaranteed total of $15.5MM.

10:24am: Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic tweets that Mikolas has agreed to a two-year deal with the Cardinals that is worth a total of $14-16MM.
