Until we get pitching settled, kind of hard to know where to spend. I like Cain if possible in center and DDJ in left and Maz in right. First and second base need to be given some thought. I like Gallo at first but no so much Roogie at second. Hope to see an upgrade at catcher too.

Cain's already 32, and his defensive metrics have slipped 3 years running and not likely to rebound at this age, no interest in him for CF, he might be fine in LF but that still leaves CF and we already have an abundance of COF candidates

pass on Cain. i think our best path is to go out and trade for a good solid CF'er like Yelich. DeShields is a liability in center with his rubber-band arm and his poor choices on his path to hit balls. that may be good in one of the corners but not in center

the kid has been lighting them up at every level and it didn't matter what position he played. like Gallo, DeShields and others he has shown that he can do it.
He has been behind the plate a grand total of 66 games in the minors. He is nowhere near ready to catch in the big leagues. His line was .288/.350/.390 this year and that is the only time his OPS has ever been over .700 since rookie ball so I don't think I would describe his offense as lighting anything up. He is projected to be a super utility type guy in the majors at best and if you want him to develop into being able to play behind the plate at the big league level then he needs a lot more minor league time. Trevino is a lot closer to being ready and even he isn't ready yet.

well then i guess we go with Nicholas and then we will have at least 2 trying to fight for playing time at AAA

At some point we need a better answer than any of these guys provide at catcher. The same is true in CF and at 2B. We need 3 starting pitchers and a closer along with those position player needs. In other words, we have a problem that is going to take more than one offseason to fix.

i like kiner-falefa's bat and his glove better

He had not been rostered as of yet but he does project as mentioned as SIU back up who can catch

Going to be interesting who Rangers add to roster

I would not be so quick to dismiss 2B and catcher. There is still hope for Trevono and Odor/Profar. Might be an unpredictable winter

Don't you think Cain is better than any MLB ready CF? Still agree that I would not invest in him at this point although at some point after regression he is more suited for LF.

Buxton although unaffordable is my dream candidate

Trevino isn't going to be ready o begin 2018 so he cannot be a fix for this offseason.

I think Profar is as good as traded now and at best Odor will be a decent to good hitter who is not very good in the field. The trouble is that Odor is going to have to prove for another year or two that he isn't the answer before JD will even consider improving at that position. That part of the equation may take a third offseason to fix.

still think Profar will be traded.
I think he will be traded and will soon become a candidate for some to say he had to have a change of scenery to succeed because I do believe he will succeed when given everyday playing time. I think he needs a change in the amount of playing time more than a change of scenery myself.

Was not referring t this year just responding to your clam a catcher and 2B is needed for future presuming your are thinking beyond 2018. We have Robbie and Odor for this year still.

When I said we needed those things I wasn't assuming we didn't already having them on the farm. I meant we needed to get better in those areas than we already are and that it will take more than one offseason to improve in that many positions. I am thinking we have an answer for the starting pitching on the farm, but we are going to have to wait until about 2020 or so before they are ready. I think a combination of Seise and Elvis will be our answer eventually in the middle of the IF. Taveras can probably provide the fix our need in CF. Seise and Taveras probably won't be ready before 2020. I am not sure about if we have the answer to our longterm catching on the farm or not. Whatley probably has the most chance of success, but he is 2-3 years away also.

If we are going to try and get better via free agency or trade then those positions will still take a couple of years to fix. One way or another I think we are still going to be looking for solutions this time next year for some of the same positions we need solutions for now.

Unless we strike it rich pitching wise, not a lot of reasons to be optimistic for this year. 2019 and more so 2020 can be good if our MILB pitching pans out. Re 2019 again huge need is CF besides pitching. I would like to think we will have improvement at 2B

the only way he is going to get significant playing is to trade someone either Andrus or Odor (his natural positions) and then pray his bat comes to life

And we're not going to do either one of those two things.
