My love for him came last sesson, when I sawas how the offense operated differently without him. I would never call him a star, but he seemed to be the missing piece, either Dunbar or a Dunbar like player is needed IMO.
Absolutely correct. Those stupid screens we ran all year last year on 3rd and long that never seemed to get us a first down actually worked the first few weeks. After that??? not so much...

I agree that a player with Dunbar's skill set is a valuable asset, and I would like to have one on the team, but Dunbar is not the guy.

On a side note, a lot of people like to compare Dunbar to Sproles, and they do have a very similar skill set, but what people seem to not realize is that Sproles has a much more muscular build than Dunbar. I just don't believe that Dunbar can stand up to a seasons worth of hits and still be productive - he hasn't been able to up to this point.

What was his injury in 2012 that cut short his season and when did it happen?

Did you watch him last year and the impact he had on those games? You are way off on this one, so If you don't get the difference I can't help you on that one. It wasn't a few random games it was everygame last year that he played in once he was finally given the opportunity - Murray wasn't leaving the field much before that. Those one or two nice games were going to be a weekly occurrence. He might have been our best offensive player in two of them.

I'm not arguing his inability to stay healthy, but your analysis of him is pretty inaccurate IMO

In 2012 Dunbar only played 12 games, don't recall the injury.

You're clearly missing my point. Dunbar has the skill set to contribute, but HE CAN'T STAY ON THE FIELD!! How is Dunbar going to contribute weekly if he isn't on the field? The moment Dunbar's usage went up, he went down with an injury. Wash rinse and repeat.

Why not Dunbar we know what he brings to the field, another running back the same skill-set may not get the same results. If he's healthy Dunbar should be out there

Dunbar was a matchup night mare. He was a stud in the season opener. In game 2, Philly paid more attention to him so that opened up other things. I do remember him dropping a circle route fly pattern for a TD vs the Eagles. Next play- Romo broken collarbone, season over.

When has Dunbar proven he can handle a consistent NFL workload? Give me a guy with maybe slight less talent, but who will post every week. Not a guy who is more than likely going to miss significant time. And as @jarntt pointed out, now that he has a Patella reconstruction under his belt, is Dunbar ever going to be the same guy again?

My fault- he actually caught the pass and ran out of bounds. 2 plays later Romo was hammered

He was a first year guy and was inactive I think.

That's unknown, but I'd like to see before I toss him into the trash bin.

And they talked about how the other teams were already game planning for him because they knew what he could do.

Well it's hard to tell IMO. He did a lot of his damage w/o Dez. When Dez is on the field on third downs most of the time I think it is 1. Dez 2. WItten 3. Beasley 4. MUrray/ Dunbar 5. WIlliams. If Dez gets the double team which he does then everyone moves up one. My question would be did Dunbar go ahead of Beasley in the progression chain. A lot of his damage in week 1 was on that last drive when the Giants were in prevent.

What I did like was in week 2 they actually ran plays for him- I know the circle route/ fly was called twice.

He had 2 catches on the game winning drive. They were huge because they were the first two plays of the drive and immediately put us in game winning FG position and shifted the pressure from us to NYG.

He has played 4 seasons, yes. Three were cut short by injury, 2012,2013 and 2015. I seem to remember Dunbar leaving games in 2014 frequently due to minor injury - be it a tight hamstring or rolled ankle, etc.

The guy has played in 41 games out of a possible 64, and has 915 yards from scrimmage in that time period. He's not even that great as a return man. I just don't get the love for him. So what he had one or two nice games last year and caught 10 passes, blah, blah. Kevin Ogeltree had a nice game here and there too...

Now coming off a Patella reconstruction, just don't see the point.

The hype comes from his averages per touch. last year rushing he averaged 13 per touch, receiving it was over 10 per touch. the year before in recieving it was over 10 per catch as well.

2014 he played in all 16 games. He was running behind Murray so he didn't many runs. But he hauled in 18 of 22 pass attempts for 12 yards a catch.

Dunbar likely starts on the PUP list this year, probably unlikely to be much of a factor this season coming off that injury as well. Maybe he contributes some again this year but I wouldnt count on it. Id be looking for a similar skill set in a healthy back

One season where he had a lightened work load due to the amount of playing time Murray received is your proof that he can stay healthy?

Cowboys Could Try To Trade G Ronald Leary This Weekend
22 mins ago Cowboys 0 Comments

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Cowboys G Ronald Leary has signed his one-year restricted tender on Thursday in the hope of facilitating a trade.

  • Todd Archer just reported that Leary had signed his one-year tender.
Leary could actually be an intriguing player for teams in need of interior offensive line help. As of now, he’s a reserve lineman behind Zack Martin and La’el Collins.

The Cowboys used a second-round tender on Leary that will run them or another team $2.553 million for the 2016 season.

Leary, 26, wound up signing on with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of back in 2012. He spent part of the 2012 season on their practice squad, but has since made the 53-man roster each season.

According to OverTheCap.com, trading Leary would free up $2,553,000 in available cap space while creating no dead money.

In 2015, Leary was limited to appearing in four games and played a total of 221 snaps for the Cowboys, according to Pro Football Focus.

Well it's proof that he stayed healthy, and we aren't looking for him to be the lead back. We signed Morris and have DMac to share the load with again.
